The University of Connecticut, Stamford Campus is seeking candidates to fill the part-time, temporary positions of University Driver. These temporary positions are responsible for safely transporting passengers on a timed schedule to and from the Train Station and University Campus. Chosen candidates report directly to the Associate Campus Director. Examples of duties are: In compliance with State and Federal Department of Transportation laws and University rules, regulations, and guidelines, drive the University bus to transport students, faculty, staff and guests from the Train Station to the UConn Stamford campus and return ; pick up passengers at specified areas and transport to destination; debark passengers and assist them as necessary; regulate heating, lighting and ventilating system for passenger comfort; maintain a professional and courteous demeanor with passengers and co-workers; may be required to work hours beyond established schedule. All potential candidates for University Driver positions are subject to pre-employment physical, post-accident, and random drug/alcohol testing, as well as driving record checks, and random driver evaluations. Perform other duties as assigned.
Must hold a CDL B license with passenger endorsement. Must have at least four (4) years experience driving public service vehicles. Two (2) years of the General Experience must have included driving transit buses or over-the-road coaches. Substitution Allowed: Graduation from a vocational or technical school with coursework in automotive mechanics may be substituted for two (2) years of the General Experience. Must have the ability to follow directions and follow prescribed routes; must have good interpersonal skills. Incumbents must have adequate physical strength, stamina, physical agility and visual and auditory acuity, and must maintain such physical fitness as to be able to perform the duties. A pre-employment physical examination may be required. Incumbents in this class may be required to lift moderate to heavy weights; may be exposed to hazardous road conditions
These are part-time, temporary positions, have varying schedules, are scheduled to begin January 18, 2013 and are only required during Academic semesters.
