Blue Canopy Group , LLC is looking for a Unix System Administrator to support a DoD Intelligence Community customer in the Northern Virginia area. The project is a customer initiative to establish a defined framework as an analytic environment The selected System Administrator will provide system administration in building and maintaining the foundation architecture to support structured and unstructured data. The selected candidate will be a member of a dynamic team that develops, deploys and maintains multiple high-performance, clustered back end systems as well as custom front-end (UI) applications

Responsibilities & Experience required:
Responsible for UNIX servers (Sun F15000 and smaller) and the operating systems software and its successful integration with the hardware and applications software of the major computing systems across the organization.
Plans, tests, installs, and integrates new and upgraded versions of the relevant operating systems on organizational computer systems, all third-party software components, and subsystems. -Develops test plans and procedures. Tests and integrates software and hardware. -Manages software life cycles.
Establishes development, testing, staging, and operating environments.
Designs interfaces to external systems.
Maintains and consults for relevant operating systems on organizational computer systems, all third-party software components, and subsystems. -Researches and resolves systems software problems efficiently and accurately while adhering to internal software management standards and procedures.
Troubleshoots problems that may involve applications and the network. Provides technical support to applications and utility developers on requirements for integration into the operating environment.
Maintains and updates documentation on the operating systems configuration.
Specialized Qualifications :
Considerable knowledge of operating systems, the organization's operating environment, network requirements, and ability to anticipate impact on respective operating systems to include: UNIX, High performance Computing Platforms, such as Sun Microsystems' F15000 or F6800, -HP's Superdrome, or a large-scale Linux Beowulf Cluster
Various utility applications. Knowledge of the organizational standards for operating configurations, security constraints, and procedures for managing organization software.
Ability to work with system developers to elicit requirements and engage in joint project planning.
Working knowledge of project management techniques to plan and execute projects.
Ability to research the latest technological developments in the relevant operating systems to identify impact on organization operating systems and to anticipate changes.
The selected candidate must have the ability to implement and maintaining complex high performance clustered systems. The candidate must have the ability to work in a mixed technical environment and maintain productivity when switching between architectures and technologies. The candidate must work well in a team environment and have the desire to develop solutions in an agile fashion.
Minimum of five (5) years experience performing system administration
Expert with Unix Administration (Scientific Linux a plus)
Experience in building, maintaining and patching images on hundreds of servers through manual and automated processes.
Experience in building and maintaining a clustered high performance Linux cluster
Experience with System Management tools to include NetApp Management, and tools such as SPLUNK, NAGIOS, ZENOSS, GANGLIA, or CLOUDERA System Management.
Ability to work effectively with customers, system architects, and developers to identify and shape requirements that meet performance and information security requirements.
