Advancement Project’s mission is to expand opportunity for low income and vulnerable people throughout California by creating large-scale change in the public systems that determine the scope of options for poor residents – police protection affects freedom from crime; the school system impacts opportunity to learn and do all the things learning makes possible; access to information about resources affects ability to become an active agent in one’s own life and participate in improving one’s community.
Advancement Project’s Urban Peace program is now seeking a highly qualified Urban Peace Coordinator to strengthen our operational infrastructure including communications and administrative capacities as well as support existing and new project implementation, identify strategic opportunities to advance Urban Peace’s goals and objectives, and develop partnerships to enhance the impact of Urban Peace. This position will work directly with the National Director of Urban Peace.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
o Develop and strengthen Urban Peace’s operational infrastructure including enhancing the communication capacity for timely and impactful dissemination of information, Urban Peace news and policy alerts as well as ways to support the development of a national network of communities aligned with goals of the Comprehensive Violence Reduction Strategy. Other elements of operational infrastructure may include a more efficient system for managing consultants, subcontractors and vendors and supervising administrative staff.
o Oversee and manage coordination and collaboration with other AP programs (e.g. Healthy City, AP DC).
o Coordinate all UP wide staff events including bi-weekly staff meetings, annual operational planning, and mental health days.
o Works in alignment with UP policy platforms to strengthen specific Urban Peace policy goals which may include but not limited to technical assistance coordination, criminal justice, school safety, or juvenile justice.
o Develop strategies to more effectively align critical program areas, such as stakeholder capacity development trainings and policy and legislation.
o Assists in developing and maintaining national networks and partnerships with cities and communities focused on addressing community violence.
o Tracks national, state and local developments in policy forums including legislative activity around Urban Peace issues.
o Works with National Director of Urban Peace on fundraising, strategic planning, staff management and client development.
o Participates in agency wide planning, development and communication activities as needed and ensures adherence to agency wide goals and policies within the project area.
o Nurtures and expands upon strategic public and private sector partnerships while doing the necessary outreach to develop new relationships.
o Conducts presentations, briefings, and workshops to a broad array of stakeholders and partners.
o Other duties as assigned by the National Director of Urban Peace.
