Non-exempt; part-time; 15-20 hours per week; varied schedule; including evening & weekend hours; no benefits; grant-funded

This position is responsible for cleaning TransIT Services fleet vehicles and other property and equipment, including passenger shelters and bus stops, and may be assigned additional fleet support duties** as appropriate. Supervision is received from the Operations Supervisor.

Examples of Work:
  • Clean, wash and wax fleet vehicles (interior and exterior) and assure that vehicles are kept clean per TransIT standards
  • Clean passenger shelters, remove trash and graffiti, and perform minor maintenance and upkeep
  • Maintain written report of vehicle washes and detailing
  • Responsible for the operation, daily/weekly/quarterly maintenance, cleaning and upkeep of the bus wash system
  • Conduct periodic inventory of the bus supplies and onboard equipment, schedules, rider bulletins, commercial ads, etc.
  • Maintain an accountability of all cleaning supplies and requisitions
  • Compile and prepare daily and periodic written reports (e.g. daily vehicle and bus wash system maintenance, wash system and vehicle supply, etc.)
  • Perform non-mechanical vehicle maintenance, such as filling fluids, replacing headlamps, etc.
  • Assist with vehicle pre-trip and driver pullout according to schedule; write-up defects and submit reports
  • Assist with pulling fare boxes
  • Assist with bus stop sign inventory, installation and maintenance
  • With an appropriate commercial driver’s license**, duties may also include moving, transporting and test driving fleet vehicles
  • Perform other related duties as required

Qualifications & Requirements:
  • Possession of a valid automobile operator’s license
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Frederick County Employee Driving Permit
  • Knowledge of Maryland state and local traffic laws and regulations
  • Kn owledge of potential safety hazards associated with basic automotive service, and ability to employ appropriate safety precautions
  • Effective spoken and written (English) communication skills, including the ability to accurately complete forms and reports, install signs and notices, etc.
  • Ability and willingness to learn to operate all fleet vehicles
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the general public
  • Physical requirements include the ability to use hand tools, power tools and electrical equipment to wash vehicles and perform minor maintenance functions; the ability to lift and move equipment weighing up to 30 pounds; and the ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
PREFERENCE MAY BE GIVEN FOR :
  • Related work experience
  • Possession of a valid Maryland class B Commercial Driver's License** with passenger endorsement and airbrake endorsement (or an equivalent license)

Additional Information/Examination Process:
  • Available for varied working schedule as needed, which includes evening and weekend hour
  • The grant that funds this position will determine the duration of the position
  • This position is subject to post-accident, reasonable suspicion, return to duty and random drug and alcohol testing
  • **With a valid CDL-B as stated above and assignment of CDL-related duties, the following will apply:
  • Must satisfy all Department of Transportation requirements as they apply to periodic physical examinations and licensing standards
EXAMINATION PROCESS (may include):
1) An evaluation of training and experience
2) One or more interviews
3) A behind-the-wheel driving evaluation
4) A pre-employment physical examination and drug test
