Schawk, Inc. is seeking to fill a VP, Brand Strategy position in their Chicago office. Schawk, Inc. has two brand development agencies, BrandImage / Anthem Worldwide. The VP, Brand Strategy is a highly collaborative role, as they support and help drive the broader business agenda and financial objectives within these agencies. VP, Brand Strategy experts, are responsible for developing new Brand and Strategy engagements across the company's portfolio of existing clients, as well as leveraging these offerings to help develop business with new clients. The VP, Brand Strategy position reflects the company's intent to continue to bring clients a wide range of Brand, Strategy, Design and Communications solutions, to help drive their clients' Marketing agendas. This position requires a blend of Business Development, and Project Design, Client Relationship Management and Project Delivery. The ideal VP Brand Strategy brings a unique mix of analytical and creative skills to the table. Candidates are able to deconstruct complicated brand and consumer issues, identify the framework for success, and contribute to the development of visual strategies. Likewise, the VP, Brand Strategy must have a sophisticated visual sensibility, constantly looking at challenges through a creative lens.A strong foundation in brand strategy with exposure to design strategy is desired for this role.
Strategic Analysis, Insight - The VP, Brand Strategy will work closely with a variety of Schawk, Inc., Brandimage and Anthem colleagues/offices to develop and implement the Brand Strategy offering, consistent with the overall business objectives. This individual will plan and oversee client strategic planning sessions, and drive the identification, development and deployment of strategic analysis, critical consumer insights, and specific brand strategy solutions for a variety of clients.
Project Management & Delivery - The VP, Brand Strategy will ultimately be accountable for the deliverables on each major Brand Strategy engagement, which means they are responsible for the life-cycle of each project from business development, to proposal development, to relationship management, contributing to project definition and staffing, to final delivery (measured by client feedback on overall quality, timing and cost). This also means ensuring projects meet internal quality, timing and margin/profitability targets.
Set and realize Growth/Revenue Targets - The VP, Brand Strategy will be a critical driver of revenue. As such, having a growth mindset and driving sustainable profitable revenue growth is key. Specifically, this individual will need to develop a Business Development plan that includes developing a Brand Strategy offering for the Brandimage/Anthem existing client base as well as developing new clients. This effort will be coordinated with the corporate Business Development teams as well as the business leaders within Brandimage/Anthem. Meeting financial targets will require pricing expertise and tight cost-management across each project lifecycle.
Client Relationship Management - Work closely with Brandimage/Anthem leaders, and across work teams, augment existing Design and Pre-Media relationships to develop consultative Brand Strategy client relationships. Most client relationships will exist at the CMO, VP, Marketing and Marketing/Brand Director levels, although the VP, Brand Strategy will be responsible for optimizing how all relationships are matured, for maximum, mutual value. Success is dependent on leveraging existing relationships to best develop rapport/trust with existing client teams, while providing superior consultative delivery for clients.
Organizational Development - Continue to help build and shape a highly-effective, world-class Brand Strategy organization-and capability-by hiring, training, motivating and setting leadership direction for all direct and indirect reports as required. Define and nurture a collaborative and client-oriented consulting team, cross-functionally, within Brandimage/Anthem.
Intellectual Capital Development - Clients engage for many reasons, but one of the core assets Schawk, Inc. expects to present will be its suite of unique and ownable processes, methodologies, and tools. The Company expects to lead the market in terms of offering the very best Brand Strategy solutions. As such, the VP, Brand Strategy should be able to bring with them best practices, tools and approaches that help shape the ongoing contributions to Schawk, Inc.'s delivery. The VP, Brand Strategy must also demonstrate a point of view about "marketing" to the client community through publishing, speaking opportunities, thought leadership, etc.
VP, Brand Strategy
BA or BS in Marketing/Communications, or related field
8-10+ years related experience working in brand consulting, strategic planning or marketing on the client side
Broad experience with blue chip clients, particularly with consumer packaged goods brands
First hand experience with qualitative consumer research (moderating experience desirable but not mandatory)
Familiarity with quantitative research preferred
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with people at all levels
Understanding of package design development
Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Keynote
