The Vice President of Procurement is accountable for ensuring that manufacturing locations and corporate locations are supplied with direct and indirect raw materials and services that meet business requirements at the lowest possible total cost of ownership. The position requires a leader with an operational understanding of our industry (pulp and paper mills, folding paperboard cartons, multi-wall bag and flexible packaging), able to direct a procurement organization consisting of strategic sourcing, operations and optimization departments.
The Vice President of Procurement needs to be a high energy, action oriented individual capable of making complex decisions in a timely fashion. This position requires extensive networking within the organization (finance, treasury, HS&E, operations, sales, HR, IT and Legal) to ensure that sourcing and procurement opportunities are fully exploited to continue driving out cost. In addition, this position requires a strong combination of interpersonal, management, technical and organizational awareness skills to influence associates and GPI’s leadership of the strategic value of direct and indirect commodity sourcing and procurement.
The Vice President of Procurement is responsible for ensuring that procurement strategies are developed, documented, and implemented to coordinate procurement activities company-wide to maximize scale efficiencies and deliver industry-leading effectiveness. This position is responsible for helping end users define their requirements, as well as identifying and contracting with suppliers deploying a formal strategic procurement initiative process. The Vice President of Procurement is responsible for ensuring the procurement organization meets cost reduction targets and leverages the capabilities of the supply market to help GPI improve upon its competitive cost advantage within the industry.
Manage all external spend on direct and indirect raw materials and services, including capital equipment.
Ensure procurement strategy aligns with company strategy.
Collaborate with the leadership team on strategic projects to attain financial goals through creative and forward-thinking management.
Stay abreast of relevant economic, industry, supply market, and business conditions to update strategy and assure supply.
Understand and maintain awareness of best practices.
Develop an annual strategic sourcing / supplier / spend category management plan.
Drive sourcing & procurement best practices across company.
Manage the strategic procurement initiative process and provide an environment that enables the success of individual teams (stakeholder management, review and pressure test savings hypotheses, etc.).
Direct, review, and approve all major sourcing decisions.
Negotiate strategic long-term contracts and service-level agreements.
Track all savings clearly and consistently.
Provide strategic procurement guidance and develop programs, policies and procedures to produce efficiencies and reduce expenses through strategic sourcing.
Ensure compliance to formal sourcing/procurement policies and preferred supplier agreements.
Lead, develop and motivate procurement staff.
15-20 years operations experience, including 3-5 years of senior level responsibility
5-10 years industry experience
, MBA, or MS preferred
Minimum of 7 years management experience
Exceptional hands on functional expertise
Broad sourcing and purchasing knowledge
Proven analytical ability
Solid understanding of impact on business decisions
Proven leadership and problem solving skills
Solid record of delivering results
Strong technology background/aptitude
