EnergySavvy is looking for a VP of Engineering to lead an amazing development team working on a cutting-edge tech stack in a hot industry sector. We ’re making a positive impact to the world while building an incredible company with a great work environment where BS and politics are checked at the door. We are a small but rapidly-growing investor-funded software company in Seattle. We ’ve emerged from the ‘three guys in a garage ’ early start-up days and are entering high-growth mode, in terms of customers, revenue and team.
As VP of Engineering, you ’ll start with a large team of direct reports, double it over the next year, grow team leads to help scale, and make sure to maintain the open, collaborative culture we ’ve developed so far. But make no mistake, this is still a “get your hands dirty ” kind of role when it comes to coding, code reviews and solving technical problems. The ideal candidate is likely currently a first or second level development lead that has massive potential and would like to boost their career by becoming accountable for the entire development discipline at a company. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following: Manage and grow the development team as we scale up to serve utility energy efficiency programs across the country.
Career and professional development for all development team members, from code reviews to longer-term mentoring. Be accountable for development, testing, IT operations, security and technical infrastructure, evolving processes as organizational needs change. Resource planning and optimization, from team allocations to growth planning and budget management. Interact with management team that includes CEO, CTO/founder (responsible for technical architecture) and VP Product Management to set product strategy, development schedules and overall company strategy.
Required Skills: You have at least 5 years experience in successful people management: Proven ability to attract and retain junior and senior developers. You ’ve got a handful of folks that would say they ’d love to report to you. Full cycle experience: recruiting, hiring, retaining, mentoring and, yes, terminating when necessary. You love to code (but may not have a lot of time for it anymore): You ’ve got recent product or side-project code that you ’ve been working on.
You ’ve done at least 5 years of software engineering. You ’ve written code in iOS/ObjectiveC, Ruby on Rails or Django in the last year. You are a passionate advocate for great engineering methodology: You can describe a handful of development approaches and have experience with the inherent tradeoffs. You ’ve long outgrown the notion that there ’s always one right way to do things.
You ’ve worked in sophisticated environments that have well defined and successful approaches for deployment, code review, automated testing, security, performance and other aspects of quality.
