Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Membership, Marketing & External Affairs, the Vice President of Membership serves as chief membership officer providing executive leadership for SHRM’s Membership Strategy (including strategic membership initiatives and relationships). Provides leadership to SHRM’s membership staff; develops and manages programs for the Volunteer Leadership, and provides leadership to SHRM’s network of affiliate partners.
The executive will be responsible for developing programs to grow and retain the SHRM membership as well as developing and maintaining strategic relationships to ensure a vital and engaged network of volunteer leaders.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
Serves as thought leader on membership acquisition, retention, satisfaction and engagement initiatives. Works with the Marketing division to establish and achieve membership acquisition and retention goals.
Works with ACIP to establish and achieve membership acquisition and retention goals.
Develops plans and programs to achieve membership growth goals, including various diversity and retention initiatives. In collaboration with Marketing, develops, monitors and reports on membership marketing budget. Effectively leads the implementation of SHRM Membership Core Leadership Areas.
Facilitates the development and implementation of effective relationship management and regional strategies. Identifies opportunities and strategies to engage new and under-served current membership and potential members.
Responsible for developing and overseeing programs for SHRM affiliates, i.e., State Councils and Chapters (both professional and student) to provide a platform for thought leadership, sharing of best practices and professional networking within the HR community. Assures that all affiliation requirements are met and required documentation is executed in a timely manner, and that all records are maintained professionally.
Oversees the effective management of Regional Councils and supports the efforts and initiatives of the Membership Advisory Council (MAC).
Develops and implements an effective member engagement program which supports the needs of both at-large members and members in chapters.
Serves as the primary SHRM liaison with its super mega chapters. Determines the special needs of the super mega chapters, and in collaboration with other SHRM departments develops and implements strategies and programs which effectively support the success of these chapters.
Ensures communication and coordination occurs between the field staff and SHRM headquarter departments. Develops and promotes forums for understanding HR and association management trends, effective sharing of best practices programs, and for problem and issue resolution.
Represents SHRM to a variety of audiences, serving as speaker, facilitator and spokesperson.
Develops communication programs and networking events for SHRM volunteers and members, and contributes to the communication efforts of other SHRM departments.
Oversees the management of SHRM recognition and support programs for volunteer groups such as chapters, state councils and MAC.
In partnership with Professional Development and other SHRM departments, develops programming, networking events; and serves as champion for SHRM’s Annual Leadership Conference.
Provides leadership and direction for large and often complex change initiatives related to the Volunteer Leadership Structure.
Supervises division staff providing leadership, coaching and mentoring for staff; and develops and manages plans and budgets.
Provides input into the organization’s goals and operations as a member of the Vice Presidents Council and the Senior Management Team.
Directly manages Eastern/Western Regional Directors, Director of Member Engagement and serves as department director for Member Relations Directors and Regional Administrators.
