“Internal Posting – Only Permanent NCDOT Employees or layoff candidates with the NC Department of Transportation eligible for RIF priority reemployment consideration as described by GS 126 may apply.” Serves as Journey Level Vehicle Equipment Repair Technician Supervisor (VERTS) in the Cleveland County Division Equipment Shop in Shelby, NC. Employee will maintain automated fuel system: Monthly inspections and PM’s at all division fuel locations. Assist in annual State and Federal UST inspections. Assist all division personnel with radio repairs or failures. Assist state radio engineer in any repairs or upgrades to system. Emergency generator contact, 30 day PM’s on all division generators and operational check. Supervise sub-shops as needed. Monitor and break down reports in SAP using Business Warehouse and reports findings to superintendent. Provide Fleet Support with trend analysis and reports. Performs considerable amount of time diagnosing complex equipment failures in all seven repair shops, inventory, preventive maintenance program, shop safety, and records relating to equipment. Will perform a wide variety of work utilizing SAP, to include equipment structure changes, PM duties and pulling weekly reports provided to Division user departments. Supervises and performs fuel island repairs and maintains inspection records in accordance with NCDENR and EPA standards. Manage warranty repairs, maintain buildings and grounds and manage capital improvements at facilities.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies:

Ability to supervise mechanics and support employees in the maintenance and repair of all types of equipment. Diagnose problems with equipment to ensure proper repairs, identify and order needed repair parts. Ability to work in all types of weather conditions, ability to lift 50 lbs. Will travel to all six counties in the Division and be required to work extended periods of time in other counties as shop needs arise. Complete accident & injury reports, participate in & conduct incident investigations, manage state safety inspections and surplus sales. Work with laptop computers, and proficient with SAP functions. Provide leadership and/or influence to the team (s) and help to guide the work of others. Demonstrate a thorough/extensive understanding of diagnosis of problems with difficult and complex mechanical systems recognized at the Advanced level in the VERT class. Identify fault causes and report trends to Fleet Support. Help develop solutions for these trends: Resolution of problems, diagnose trends and implement solutions from Fleet Support. Knowledge and ability to perform a number of widely varying and diverse assignments that require in-depth analysis and diagnostic work. Establishes expectations and clear direction to meet goals and objectives of on- going work for a group of employees. Observes and assesses work, provides feedback; establishes cultures of safety for employees and ensures that work processes are free from safety and health hazards and the employees are properly trained. Valid NC Class "A" CDL with "N" endorsement is required within 90 days of employment or applicant will be terminated. Pre-employment drug testing is required. Safety toe shoes are required within 30 days of employment. A Release Form (ALCDRG-01) and a Background Statement (ALCDRG-06) must be signed allowing NCDOT to check with previous employers for the past 2 years about controlled substances and alcohol testing.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalency and two years of experience in automotive or heavy equipment maintenance; or equivalent combination of training and experience. . . . .
