Major/Essential Duties of Job
Veterinary Residency Program to prepare for specialty board certification and enter an academic or referral practice career. Emphasis is on the management of a heavy emergency veterinary caseload, with at least 25% of time spent as part of the team overseeing the critical care unit. The critical care resident is often responsible for assisting with cases requiring ventilation or having special intensive care requirements such as peritoneal dialysis or post-arrest and resuscitation management. The residents are regularly responsible for the supervision and teaching of students and interns during cage side rounds and emergency receiving shifts. Residents present lectures to the college, interns and the nursing staff in their respective lecture series. The emergency critical care service will hold twice weekly didactic rounds which cover physiology and pathophysiology topics, as well as review of current literature and morbidity and mortality rounds. Other duties as required.
The residents are encouraged to join the didactic sessions of other specialty services.
Required Education and Experience
DVM or equivalent. Successful completion of a 1-year rotating internship program or the equivalent. A valid regular OR qualifications for a special license to practice veterinary medicine in the state of Texas. (An applicant for a special license must: (1) have graduated from an AVMA-accredited college of veterinary medicine OR have the PAVE or ECFVG certificate, and (2) pass a jurisprudence examination.) Must be a member of the AVMA. Employment is contingent on your ability to provide employment eligibility documentation required by federal employment and/or immigration laws. Requires ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
