Education/Experience:
Required: High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
Required: Previous experience in a small animal veterinary office and small animal handling skills.

The veterinary ICU Technician Assistant works 10 hour shifts between the hours of 8a-8p Tuesday - Friday and plays a vital role in providing competent and compassionate basic care by assisting Surgery & ICU technicians with in hospital patient care. In addition to maintaining the cleanliness of the CVSS treatment area, the ICU Assistant restocks the supplies necessary for the treatment of CVSS’ patients. The ICU Assistant provides support to the Surgery & ICU technicians and all other CVSS employees as needed to ensure high quality patient and client care.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

1. Prepare appropriate accommodations for surgery patients as necessary with proper attention to comfort, warmth, etc. and set up of various equipment as requested by ICU or anesthesia technicians.

2. Properly assess post op patients vital signs as instructed, and notify ICU technician of any changes in patient status.

3. Properly feed & water patients as instructed & taking into account patient status, diet, type of surgery, etc.

4. Walking/carrying patients outside for elimination purposes as necessary and in a manner that will not do any harm to patient/surgical site.

5. Proper documentation of patient’s vital signs, treatments, eliminations, etc.

6. Help/assist ICU technicians as necessary by completing other tasks and helping other staff if necessary, along with helping restrain/position animals in radiology.

7. Administer oral meds under direction of ICU tech.

8. Help maintain IV fluid administration as instructed by ICU tech.

9. Help keep the ICU treatment area clean & clutter free.

10. Restock and straighten up ICU treatment carts at least once per day.
