Brook Farm takes the process of acquiring new staff seriously, and as a commitment to the quality of service we provide, enforce the following: All applicants are drug screened through a professional laboratory. How Technicians Work at Brook Farm
Brook Farm Veterinary Center’s Technicians are at the core of our practice: they work in tandem with our doctors and other staff. Like the other members of our practice, technicians are an integral part to the care that we provide: they remain friendly and flexible in the face of varying expectations from clients and supervisors. Our medical team spends most of their time assessing cases, assisting in surgery and in appointments, and working to mediate our clients’ concerns.
Thousands of clients rely on our practice for their pet’s medical care, and our staff helps them with every aspect of that. Our Technicians must understand both medicine and people quickly. Their focus is ever changing according to the priority of the moment. This requires the ability to multi-task impeccably, think creatively and on your feet, and remain cool in heated situations. They provide training, supervision, and leadership, and must promote a positive work environment through the direction and motivation of their colleagues.
A Technician at Brook Farm is required to have: Excellent customer service skills - the ability to be empathetic, accurate, compassionate, resourceful, and conscientious. Excellent organizational, written, and oral communication skills. Past real-world experience in the field, specifically in the surgical suite, exam room, and ICU. An appreciation for doing things right the first time and maintaining the quality of the service we provide. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to set a good example. Physical and mental strength. Technicians must physically hold and restrain pets that may struggle, scratch, or try to bite. This requires the emotional ability to remain calm and compassionate with animals that are reacting to fear and/or pain and the physical strength, dexterity, and reflexes to keep the pet, themselves, and other staff safe. The ability to view physical symptoms or medical problems, read medical instruments, and follow and provide handwritten instructions. Prompt recall of many facts and figures from memory, and be able to solve complex problems. The appropriate education from an accredited college or university, and the appropriate competencies that come with said education. A good sense of humor.
Anyone at Brook Farm is required to be: Human. You understand what clients are going through and can empathize with their concerns. Level headed. You can make decisions in the heat of the moment under massive amounts of pressure and stress and stand by them. Responsible. You are honest, reliable, and able to work independently without direct supervision. Timely. You are punctual in your commitments and your duties. Flexible. You understand that, like human hospitals, animal practices don’t open or close at a specific time. You must be able to commit to a regular schedule that includes the possibility of working weekends or evenings. An adult in mind and body but a child in spirit. A nice person (bonus if you’re funny.)
Rest assured that you’ll be taken well taken care of at Brook Farm. We’re interested in retaining the talent that we acquire by offering: Health benefits (medical, dental, vision, and other elective plans are available.) Competitive salaries and schedules. Premium Pandora Radio account for all staff. Various company-sponsored events throughout the year such as our Halloween Potluck and Pumpkin-Carving Contest, various humane society benefits, including a Murder Mystery Dinner, and several annual excursions to the Westchester Broadway Theater. A fully stocked kitchen with more than just dog food.
