The Vice President, Academic Affairs is the Educational Administrator designated to lead the faculty and staff to provide excellent educational programs and services that contribute to the success of our students and the vitality of the communities we serve. The Vice President is charged by the Board of Trustees with satisfactory implementation of Board policy and District or college procedures as applicable to the position. Under the direction of the President, the Vice President is responsible for the management and operation of all instructional agenda, programs, support services, and staff of the District and for developing and recommending policy, goals, and objectives for instructional services. As a member of the President's Senior Executive team, the Vice President, Academic Affairs works collaboratively with the Vice Presidents of Student Affairs and Business Affairs to achieve the mission, values and goals of the District.

The Vice President, Academic Affairs plans for and manages enrollment for the District; supervises District instructional educational administrators, supervisors, and direct support staff, and has direct supervisory responsibility for all academic and vocational Schools, the college library and institutional research, and provides assistance to the President for District planning processes.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

Encourage program innovation and renewal in response to changing needs by working with faculty and deans in the development of strategies to improve student success. E

Provide leadership and work closely with academic staff to develop, modify and enhance instructional and supportive services for students including distance education and learning resources; expand and provide academic, career and technical education programs to meet the diverse needs of community college students including new, transfer, re-entry, and high school advanced placement students. E

Work collaboratively with the Academic Senate, Curriculum Committee, and Outcomes and Assessment Committee in the development of curriculum and in the development, assessment, analysis, and use of Student Learning Outcomes (SLO’s). Co-chair the Curriculum Committee. E

Provide leadership and direction in the development, implementation, interpretation and evaluation of the District curriculum and curricular activities to assure that current, balanced and innovative instructional programs, activities and opportunities are available for students in a wide variety of fields of endeavor. E

Coordinate the development of the class schedules, college catalog and instructional publications. E

Relate and communicate effectively with administrators, faculty, staff and students. E

Work collaboratively with the Vice President of Student Affairs to assure all areas of instructional programs interface effectively and appropriately with student services to benefit students. E

Work collaboratively with other vice presidents, deans, and faculty for systematic instructional program review; utilize the results and recommendations to strengthen academic programs and develop strategic and short-term plans for all instructional services in coordination with the College Planning Council and leadership of other District entities. E

Represent the District with community groups, educational institutions, statewide committees, and professional organizations. Develop, maintain relationships, and collaborate with local schools and colleges and universities. E

Serve as a member of the President’s Cabinet, Executive Cabinet, College Planning Council and other committees/task forces as appropriate to carry out the responsibilities of the position; participate in establishing, and achieving institutional goals in accordance with the District’s educational master plan. E

In a quality and service-oriented environment, supervise and evaluate the performance of instructional personnel including deans, directors, and classified staff; develop, implement and review expectations for performance and standards of excellence consistent with established District goals and performance. E

Prepare and present the instructional agenda items for the Board. E

Provide leadership and work closely with academic staff to develop, modify and enhance instructional and supportive services and programs of the District including recommendations for new or revised polices and procedures. E

Stay current on legislation and regulations affecting the instructional program in areas such as the development and interpretation of District instructional policies, California Education Code, Title V, State and Federal regulations. E

Administer and monitor instructional budgets to ensure appropriate allocation and expenditure of funds. E

Oversee the collection, analysis, and reporting of institutional data. E

Meet schedules and timelines, organize multiple projects efficiently and effectively and carry out required project details throughout the year. E

Seek and participate in professional development activities. E

Perform additional duties as assigned by the President. E

Required Skills

REQUIRED PROFICIENCIES

Knowledge, experience and abilities to perform the representative duties above listed in an efficient, effective, and professional manner.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

Solid understanding of community college students, their diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds and the wide variety of their ages and educational goals as found on a community college campus, and a demonstrated ability to work with people from this diverse population.

Evidenced experience with all aspects of general, vocational and pre-collegiate instructional programs and services, State of California Education Code, Title V regulations, State and Federal code and regulations, and collective bargaining agreements.

Sound knowledge and understanding of articulation practices and policies related to public (K-12) and university programs; current trends and events in post-secondary education in California and the Nation.

Currency with trends in educational program offerings and delivery systems for both instructional programs and services.

Knowledge of grant funding sources, policies and procedures.

Thorough understanding of California and local curriculum development review, implementation and compliance policies and procedures and practices.

Knowledge of training and development.

Willingness and ability to maintain and promote collegiality and participatory governance and provide leadership and direction for the instructional/learning agendas of the College.

Ability to evaluate situations and recommend appropriate courses of action to superiors; maintain a sense of necessary directions for the College''s academic agenda and provide leadership.

Excellent interpersonal skills with faculty, staff, students, and community groups.

Evidenced experience in the leadership and representative of a diverse faculty and staff.

Evidenced experience with Accreditation process and standards.

Required Experience

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A Master's degree in an area related to the position, five (5) years instructional experience in higher education in a field within the purview of the position and three (3) years of recent experience overseeing and administering instructional programs.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
A Doctorate degree in an area related to the position, knowledge and experience with contemporary academic technology, strong systems orientation and systems development background. Teaching experience in higher education.

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Valid California driver''s license and must have an acceptable driving record and current vehicle insurance meeting State of California requirements.
