Job Purpose:
Responsible for leading the GCP Analytics function, the candidate will be responsible for setting the thought leadership and delivering proposals in the following areas

Marketing Channel Optimisation & targeting

Pricing and product analytics

Portfolio segmentation

Analytical support for existing customer management initiatives

MI and Data management

Risk / Reward modelling

Cross sell opportunities across segments

The jobholder will be responsible for leading and developing a world-class analytical team as measured by the quality and efficiency of the work performed and will be accountable for developing and delivering an analytics strategy & roadmap

In order to gain buy-in for new proposals, the jobholder will be responsible for engaging and convincing senior stakeholders across CRO, Finance, Commercial Units, Sales, Managing Directors, Operations and Marketing as

well as the GBS Executive Committee as and when required

The jobholder will have line management responsibilityfor a team which will range from 3 to 5 FTEs (4 at the moment)

Finally, the role holder will provide first class leadership, embodying the "One Barclays" Behaviors and will inspire and develop the broader team to be customer centric, commercially focused and aligned to the Corporate objectives.

Key Accountabilities:
Strategic innovation and analysis. From inception to sign-off

Continually develop, refine and drive SB and GCP portfolio strategies and its constituent parts in accordance with STP plans.

The jobholder will be expected to blend quantitative and qualitative analysis in a very innovative way as well as leverage innovative analytical techniques

Display a real drive to create value and demonstrate positive P&L impact by developing balanced strategies

Make regular and ad hoc presentations to Group Risk, CRO ExCo, GBS Exco, Managing directors and their executive committees and obtain sign-off for proposals. The jobholder will be required to be able to negotiate with key stakeholders in order to secure acceptance to proposals. Given the variety of committees that will be presented to, the jobholder will be required to show flexibility in their influencing approach and taylor their analysis to a variety of audiences some less analytical or expert than others

Communication of all new strategies and any implications across the wider SBU, GBS, or Group stakeholders will be delivered to the expected high standards and the role holder will be an ambassador for One-Barclays in this field

Team leadership & Stakeholder Management

Proactively work with the GCP and pan-GBS leaders and other key stakeholders to ensure alignment

Work with appropriate Credit Risk and Finance Stakeholders to ensure alignment of process, tools, data and approach across business areas

Manage the delivery of appropriate and effective stakeholder reporting and MI

Create and articulate a compelling team vision

Develop and retain a team of high-performing analytical talent so that the team is "world class"

Improve personal technical and business knowledge through self-learning/training and supporting team members in development and training needs

Deliver effective management of risk, governance, compliance and control

Lead cross-functional and ad-hoc teams when needed to meet business needs and challenges

Capability Improvement

Promote a continuous program of data acquisition/assessment, research and capability evaluation/development

Continuously improve analytical techniques and talent within the team to take it world-class

Work with various systems providers (IM, IT) in order to upgrade our data and decisioning capabilities


Technical and Analytical Skills

Deep industry knowledge

Extensive experience of data analysis, decision systems/technology experimental design and value-based customer management

Ability to identify solutions and package ideas and results in a logical and compelling way for both technical and non-technical audiences

Conceptual thinking

Intellectual competencies - business acumen, strong analytical skills, creativity, strategic thinking

Track Record - Proven ability to develop a large, highly skilled leadership team who have achieved exceptional business results by undertaking transformation within the business

Externally recognized expertise within the fields of data mining, analytical expertise and modelling

Experience of building and applying predictive models using large data sets from various sources

Demonstrable track record in decision analytics, quantitative methods, and data strategy being applied with positive business outcomes

Masters degree or higher in statistics, mathematics, economics, operations research or other quantitative area

Commercial & inter-personal Expertise

Deep knowledge of market trends, competitor activity, customer trends, political activity which is affecting the overall business

Inspirational leadership capability including proven experience in building, leading and developing a highly talented team

Thorough knowledge and understanding of the regulatory and governance framework that the business is operating in

Deep commercial and financial awareness including P&L Management of the overall business

Significant experience of performing a senior role within the analytical function of within financial services

Thorough understanding of the market place including strategic / financial planning, marketing, Risk Management

Understanding of both internal and external communications, utilising key channels, and the brand to full effect

Stakeholder Management -

The jobholder will be required to build and maintain effective working relationships across functions and business units.

Excellent commercial focus -

the jobholder will need a detailed understanding of the key value drivers and financial dynamics of the corporate business. The role holder will also need to have a strong understanding of the market/industry macroeconomics and have proximity to the Business Banking levers.

In-depth negotiating and influencing skills -

ability to negotiate budget and timelines for key initiatives and strategies with stakeholders in CRO as well as COO and commercial teams.

Presentation and Communication Skills -

be able to communicate complex data and financial results to a wide audience, including formal presentation of risk performance to GCP ExCo and senior stakeholders.


  • Ability to work with and in cross-functional and virtual teams.

  • Able to think creatively and relate the strategic priorities of the business to the CRO activities and innovate/manage new ideas that grow the business.
