This position manages all aspects of development of wind, solar, and other renewable energy power-generation projects, including green-field development, negotiation of power purchase agreements as well as financing and/or monetization of projects.
The regional Vice President will be responsible for day-to-day aspects of the project development process (i.e., beginning with site prospecting and concluding with the commencement of construction), and manages and provides strategic direction and goals for RES Americas’ North Region development team based in Minneapolis, and manage development contractors operating in New England. It is expected the development staff will grow to support additional development in PJM, NYISO, and NEISO.
Manages RES Americas’ project development activities and development portfolio in the Northeastern region.
Provides strategic direction and establishes goals for RES Americas’ development activities in the region.
Manages regional development budgets.
Communicates with senior management and – as directed – RES Americas’ Board of Directors.
Directly participates in and monitors policy discussions happening in state legislative bodies, public utility commissions, FERC, etc. and participates in advocacy activities to promote policies favorable to company and industry positions.
Maintains development responsibilities on multiple projects simultaneously with minimal oversight.
Ensures that projects are developed in a manner that minimizes risk and will past financier’s due-diligence process.
Acts as lead negotiator as ”closer” of definitive agreements, including power purchase agreements, asset purchase and sale agreements, etc. in full cooperation with other RES departments including transaction, power marketing, transmission, and legal.
Works closely with internal and external legal counsel and other senior members of the development team to draft legal documents.
Manages consultants and other temporary contractors.
Participates in environmental and permitting work. Complete understanding of and full ability to manage environmental study and project permitting process in conjunction with RES Americas’ permitting team.
Represents RES Americas in industry settings. Demonstrates the ability to diffuse high-conflict situations in public forum and in the media, effectively working in conjunction with other RES Americas employees.
Participates in transmission/interconnection process. Complete understanding of and full ability to manage the transmission/interconnection process in conjunction with the RES Americas transmission team.
Maintains well-established and productive relations with utilities and other potential clients and identifies and develops business opportunities.
Works with finance team to assess viability of emerging opportunities. Understand project financing models and can actively help finance team screen project opportunities. Capable of successfully managing a “lead role” on project closings.
Help to ensure compliance with the company’s internal procedures, including safety, quality and environment.
Ensures Quality and Environmental procedures are maintained.
1)Proven utility or industrial experience that includes a successful track record related to project development.
2)Thorough understanding of one or more of the MISO, PJM, NYISO, and NEISO transmission systems and the renewable markets within these footprints.
3)Ability to think creatively to successfully overcome obstacles and achieve objectives, financial targets and/or deadlines.
4)Needs expertise and the necessary skills to interface with stakeholders and will be instrumental in delivering on-time cost effective projects.
5)Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Good interpersonal skills. Entrepreneurial abilities.
6)Experience in the following areas would be preferred: project development experience in the wind power or wind energy sector.
7)Ability and willingness to travel approximately 30%-50% of time, if necessary.
8)Skilled in MSOffice, Outlook, Word, Excel & PowerPoint.
BS Degree or higher in business, science, engineering or other related subject
