Reporting to the Vice President and Chief Operating Officer with matrix reporting to the Dean of the Medical College of Georgia, the Vice President and Chief Medical Officer serves as the senior physician within the health system and as such, is a high ranking member of the health system executive team. This physician executive works most closely with the CEO, COO, Dean of the School of Medicine, Health System and Medical Center Board of Directors, CFO of the Medical Center, the CFO of Medical Associates (PPG or Physicians Practice Group), Department Chairs and other leadership in coordinating all clinical activities within Georgia Regents Medical Center (GHSMC), including tactical and strategic plans which support excellence in the clinical, research and teaching missions of the enterprise. Furthermore, he/she is responsible for providing effective leadership and expertise in matters pertaining to Patient Quality and Safety Management, Regulatory Affairs, Medical Staff Affairs, Infection Prevention and Control, Graduate Medical Education, Clinical Risk Management (in conjunction with the Risk, Quality and Safety management departments), Clinical Informatics and Health Information Management. The Vice President and Chief Medical Officer, who also holds the rank of Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs in the Medical College of Georgia, works collaboratively across the enterprise entities to ensure: (a) the safe delivery of high quality cost effective care for our patients and the establishment and monitoring of metrics to ensure the delivery of excellence in this regard. (b) high satisfaction for our services among the medical staff and referring physician community; (c) the advancement of best practices in clinical care, quality and safety; and (d) high patient satisfaction. Additionally, the Vice President and Chief Medical Officer is responsible for overseeing clinical initiatives and service delivery at the Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home and the Georgia Correctional Health Care group (a management contract with the State of Georgia to provide health care services to the States incarcerated population).

Position Requirements

Education: Medical degree from an accredited institution for medical education required. An additional degree of advanced healthcare management, such as a MBA or MPH is highly desirable. Experience:
•10 years of experience as a high-performing physician in a complex healthcare delivery system.
•5 additional or concurrent years of experience in an executive leadership capacity that provided the opportunity to participate in the development of operating policies and programs in an acute care setting.
•Academic experiences – including academic leadership – commensurate with MCG Dean’s staff appointment and qualifications consistent with academic appointment as an Associate or Full professor
•Experience that demonstrates knowledge of quality infrastructure including how to implement decision tools, clinical protocols and guidelines and care management outcome assessments. Knowledge of LEAN principles and process redesign is also desirable but not required.
•Experience that demonstrates results in clinical integration/transformation and clinical IT initiatives.
•Experience that demonstrates fiscal accountability. Registrations, Certifications and /or Licenses:
•Board certified in area of specialty.
•Current unrestricted licensure as a physician
•Ability to be licensed in the State of Georgia.
•Georgia controlled substance license, DEA Registration required. Job Related Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (Competencies):
•Proficiency in the use of computing hardware and software; including the Microsoft Office Suite of products.
•Ability to concurrently manage multiple projects to successful completion.
•Demonstrated understanding of patient and service area needs, as well as scope and level of care required by patients served.
