The revenue cycle is defined as all administrative and clinical functions that contribute to the capture, management, and collection of patient service revenue. The Vice President of Revenue Cycle Operations is responsible for enhancing and maintaining a properly functioning revenue cycle process through a cross-department organizational structure. These functional areas act interdependently during a patient visit, contributing critical information required for clinical service and procuring payment. Thus, the Vice President of Revenue Cycle Operations concentrates resources on assisting the management team and applicable department heads in improving overall effectiveness & efficiencies in billing & contract compliance.
Critical responsibilities include achievement of annual and periodic goals for significant statistical indicators of revenue cycle performance and for the organization’s overall financial performance.
The Vice President of Revenue Cycle Operations is expected to demonstrate, through plans and actions, that there is a consistent standard of excellence to which all departmental work is expected to conform. Such a standard should be based on establishing and maintaining a constancy of purpose, focusing on continuous improvement within area of each Director’s influence, and delivering the highest degree of quality service possible.
The Vice President of Revenue Cycle Operations is responsible for creating and promoting an environment of leadership and direction for the revenue cycle and for the efficient performance of all relevant functional areas including charge capture, charge interface management, coding, coding education, edits management, claims submission, payment posting, denial management, registration/pre-certification, billing follow-up, financial assistance unit and all related functions. Further, the Vice President of Revenue Cycle Operations oversees, collaborates on and/or performs a variety of revenue-related projects, both at the group level and at the departmental level. The Vice President of Revenue Cycle Operations coordinates and negotiates the activities and priorities of multiple disciplines in order to optimize the operations of the revenue cycle functions and team. The Vice President of Revenue Cycle Operations will monitor, analyze and stay current with trends and regulatory issues in physician receivables management and related reimbursement issues for potential organizational impact; report revenue cycle performance to leadership; provide leadership in working with senior management to deploy a service excellence approach to the flow of all revenue cycle components throughout the system.
Bachelors degree required, preferably in Accounting, Finance, business, health or public administration, management, or a related field. Masters in hospital or business administration, accounting, finance, or related field and closely related clinical disciple preferred. FHFMA, CPA, CMA, CIA, or other industry designation/certification and extensive knowledge of patient registration, medical records, patient accounting, billing and revenue management functions a plus.
A minimum of 5 years management experience in the healthcare receivables field required.
A minimum of 5 years of direct management and oversight responsibility for hospital Accounts Receivable also required. Experience analyzing and evaluating revenue management strategies with a work record that demonstrates:
