Presently we are seeking a talented VP of Community Affairs to support James P. Steyer, CEO and Founder of Common Sense Media & Founder & Chairman of Next Generation

SUMMARY:

The VP of Community Affairs advises and supports Jim Steyer, helping to ensure the coordination and success all of his work responsibilities. The position works closely with Steyer to maximize the speed, effectiveness and efficiency of his efforts so that they are aligned with the strategic imperatives of Common Sense Media and that they complement his role as a Stanford professor as well as his new role as Founder/Chair of Next Generation.

The ideal candidate will handle complex situations and multiple responsibilities simultaneously, mixing long-term projects with the urgency of immediate demands. He/she must also have the demonstrated ability to deal with confidential information and act as a liaison between the Steyer and other constituencies, both internal and external. He/she must exhibit the skills to collaborate with and achieve actionable results through others, the ability to build strong and sustainable relationships and the capability to interact within all levels of two organizations. The VP of Community Affairs will have a demonstrated aptitude for strategic communications and social media, specifically. The successful candidate must also show the willingness and ability to manage large amounts of detail with great care and accuracy.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

Manages Steyer’s press and public affairs strategy in coordination with Colby Zintl and others at Common Sense (and Next Generation.)

Manages Steyer’s social media accounts in coordination with lead stakeholders at Common Sense and Next Generation.

Develops and manages the strategy for Steyer’s travel and public appearances, to ensure the greatest possible effectiveness, efficiency and exposure.

Works to leverage Steyer’s role and schedule in terms of fundraising and revenue/resource development.

Acts on the authority of Steyer to help coordinate projects that span both Common Sense Media and other organizations like Next Generation and Stanford, requiring cross-functional collaboration and resource allocation.

Disseminates information and communicates ideas on behalf of Steyer to relevant colleagues. Responds on behalf of Steyer to issues that arise, both internal and external.

Ensures that Steyer is well-prepared for all meetings and events.

Works closely with the Executive Assistant to the CEO to ensure the appropriate management of Steyer’s calendar so that all priorities are met and proactively planned.

Coordinate responsibility for drafting Steyer’s external communications with the relevant communications personnel.
