The Volunteer Coordinator will develop and administer the Witte Museum’s volunteer program. The Volunteer Coordinator will conduct a volunteer needs assessment with all Museum departments; recruit, interview and select volunteers; maintain an electronic database of volunteers; develop orientation and best conduct manuals for both employees and volunteers; and schedule volunteers for Museum needs. This position reports to the Director of Annual Fund.


  • Works with various Museum teams to develop a comprehensive volunteer needs assessment for company activities
  • Recruits volunteers through various local companies, universities and other non-profit groups
  • Recruits volunteers to commit to one-day, short-term and long-term volunteer projects
  • Schedules volunteers into shift work for company activities, based on departmental needs and organizational priorities
  • Develops a volunteer manual for internal use that provides information and guidelines for employees
  • Develops a volunteer manual for volunteer use that provides Witte Museum information, scheduling procedures, and helpful hints
  • Establishes and updates volunteer schedules and list of events
  • Maintains an electronic database system that tracks volunteers, and records availability, volunteer hours, skills, and performance evaluations
  • Contacts volunteers to confirm their shifts’ start and end times
  • Works with Membership and HR to maintain the current system of volunteer benefits
  • Ensures Museum staff communicate volunteer needs in due time, and provides feedback and review of volunteer performance
  • Participates in volunteer evaluations
  • Coordinates volunteer appreciation events
  • Works to keep volunteers properly informed about the Witte Museum and their volunteer duties through orientation, meetings, group sessions, manuals, emails and phone calls
  • Provides administrative support for the Director of Annual Fund
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Required: Bachelor’s Degree


Required: 2-3 years experience managing a volunteer program and/or working with volunteers on a regular basis
Organized, detail-oriented with excellent follow-up, possess excellent people skills and be service driven
Strong language and communication skills
Ability to interact with people at all levels
Proficient in Microsoft Office suite

Good physical condition
Ability to lift up to 30 lbs
Must be able to work some nights and weekends
