Advancement Project seeks a seasoned strategic campaign manager and communications professional in its Washington D.C. office to serve as Voting Rights Campaign Manager.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES :
Manage a fast paced, multi-faceted communications campaign on voting rights, voter protection and get out the vote including intense social media campaign, advertising, building coalitions, and strategic communications.

Work with a multi-skilled communications team to develop goals and strategy for a comprehensive, and strategic campaign that includes paid advertisement, public service announcements, public opinion research, national and state based media, social media to educate voters on their rights and advance the right to vote, help develop opposition to voter suppression laws, expose right wing deceptive practices and encourage people to vote.

Candidate will report to the Managing Director of Communications and will:

Develop and mangage strategy for advancing issues and campaigns;

Manage creative, detailed issue campaigns;

Manage small staff;

Oversee design and marketing of campaign website;

Manage a communications table of coalition partners;

Write thoughtful opeds and press releases;

Manage and be knowledgeable of cutting edge social media including mobile apps, eactivism, text programs, etc;

Provide web content as needed;

Manage logistical support for media events;

Oversee graphic design of collateral materials.

Develop press lists and clip files.

Prepare press kits and communications infrastructure

Prepare talking points and briefing materials

Outreach and relationship development with media

Research and development of fact sheets

QUALIFICATIONS:
Background in managing labor, electoral or issue campaigns

Demonstrated experience in managing successful communications campaigns.

A strong commitment to social justice, particularly racial justice, with experience working in diverse communities of color and with grassroots organizations

Self-directed, highly motivated and able to provide leadership in a fast-paced and unstructured environment.

BA in communications, journalism, political science or related field preferred.

5-7 years experience in strategic communications

Exceptional writing skills

Skilled at development of collateral materials

Detailed and organized

Able to develop and organize databases

Strong knowledge of social media capacity and tools

Familiarity with Excel, Powerpoint and other standard software

Results-focused approach and commitment to going the extra mile

Significant media relations experience and contacts with proven results and experience working with reporters

Experience developing and editing high-quality written materials, including: Fact sheets, talking points, statements, etc.

Applicants should have fast writing skills; experience writing for the media, ability to multitask; willingness to work hard; accountability to goals; energy and enthusiasm for innovation and interest in social change issues and advocacy. This is a one year position.
