Washtenaw Community College is looking for Student Ambassadors. These part-time student positions provide support to the Orientation department. Student Ambassadors are representatives of WCC during in-person orientation sessions, campus tours, special events, and through social media. Each student ambassador is a resource, leader, and mentor to prospective and current students.

Application Requirements:
• Resume – Please include your current degree plan, past or current work/volunteer/leadership experiences, and any other extracurricular/community involvement that are relevant to the Student Ambassador position. Do not exceed one page.
• 250-word essay describing yourself and why you would be a good student ambassador
• List at least two WCC faculty or staff as professional references (recommendation letters are welcomed but optional)

Hours:
• Scheduled to work 10 hours/week during peak periods; hours will be reduced during non-peak periods

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
1. New Student In-Person Orientations
a. Assist with facilitating orientation sessions for new students
b. Share information with new students about student success, student services, registration, and other relevant topics
c. Answer questions about student life
2. Campus tours
a. Lead campus tours after orientation sessions as well as for prospective students and their parents/guardians/guests
3. Social Media
a. Write weekly blog posts for the WCC Student Ambassadors blog page about student life at WCC
b. Post regular comments and updates related to WCC events and activities on the WCC Student Ambassador Facebook page
c. Respond to questions from prospective and current students about WCC through the Facebook and blog pages
4. Mentor/Role Model/Leader
a. Represent the college and offer the student perspective at special events, i.e., presentations to high school students and/or staff, WCC faculty/staff meetings, etc.
b. Assist with the College is My Future program for 8th grade students on several Fridays in the fall and winter semesters
c. Serve as a mentor for a group of incoming college students from selected high schools
5. Additional duties/responsibilities
a. Participate in training sessions and monthly staff meetings
b. Maintain and assemble orientation packets and other materials for distribution to students and parents/guardians
c. Perform other duties as requested by the New Student Orientation Manager

Minimum Qualifications:
• Minimum of 2.5 cumulative GPA
• Minimum of 12 credits completed by the end of winter 2013 semester.
• Plan to enroll for at least 6 credits in the fall 2013 and winter 2014 semesters
• Commit to a year-long term as a Student Ambassador from May 2013 – April 2014
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
• Comfortable speaking in front of small and large groups
• Ability to work mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends as needed
• Responsible, dependable, self-driven and team-oriented
• Organizational and leadership skills
• Flexibility to work effectively in a changing work environment
• Positive attitude and enthusiasm
• Familiarity with WCC academic and student support resources
