Creative Communications (C2) is the UW campus's primary source for effective communications products and services. We serve a wide variety of clients on campus with print, web, design, copy and mailing services.

C2 currently has an outstanding opportunity for a Web Developer to work on the Web Development team within our Creative Services unit. The Web Developer will work directly with our Designers and other Web Developers to deliver technically and visually superior websites to new and existing clients.

The ideal Web Developer candidate will be a self-starter with experience managing his/her own client portfolio. The candidate will also have experience working through complex information and specifications, often solving unique technical problems, to meet the needs of clients seeking web-based solutions that result in highly effective communication tools for their audiences.

  • Work with clients directly to plan an effective web-based strategy and development map

  • Install, configure and maintain MySQL databases and Drupal or Wordpress Content Management Systems

  • Collaborate with designers and other developers to theme website front ends, UI and widgets

  • Collaborate with clients to produce full content-rich websites with sophisticated features, views, displays and widgets

  • Design and build custom web applications that meet unique client needs

  • Perform basic system administration tasks such as CMS/database server software updates and patches

  • Work on teams within Creative Communications to continuously improve work processes and project management and production tools

  • Bachelor's Degree in computer science or related field or equivalent experience AND at least four-five years web development experience.

    Additional Requirements:
  • Strong communication and project management skills.
  • Strong problem solving skills.
  • Experience collaborating directly with design teams to build web frontends.
  • Experience with open source environments (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP, or "LAMP" in particular).
  • Experience programming in HTML, CSS, PHP, Javascript and JQuery.
  • Experience designing and building databases using MySQL.
  • Ability to work within the UNIX command line interface to manage files and other resources.
  • Ability to write clear technical project requirements and specifications.

    Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.


  • Experience working in an academic environment.
  • Experience working in research environments.
  • Experience with MS Sharepoint or .NET
  • Experience with SQL Server databases.
  • Experience applying proven project management methods and best practices

  • Condition of Employment:
