The University of South Alabama Medical Center is a regional referral center for south Alabama, southern Mississippi and the panhandle of Florida. It is also the areas’ only level I trauma center. The University of South Alabama Medical Center is managed by the USA HealthCare Management, LLC.

Essential Functions:

Utilizes a PC to access the Hospital Information System (HIS); utilizes HIS to enter requests for unit maintenance, and schedule and coordinate diagnostic procedures and continued care/follow up appointments; participates in orientation of new personnel; orders supplies and unit inventory; takes messages and relays information to appropriate personnel; acknowledges the presence of staff, physicians and visitors in the waiting room; runs errands, takes specimens to the lab and picks up medications from the pharmacy; processes patient charges accurately and timely; checks unit census and updates condition codes; processes patient requests during computer downtime; completes patient transfers and discharges; obtains insurance information and precerts on outpatients from physicians and office personnel; checks e-mail daily and responds to staff as needed; makes charts daily and replenishes chart stationary; serves as receptionist; performs general clerical duties; prepares unit admission packs; reviews patient charts prior to discharge to assess that all forms are complete; removes all lab orders, data, requisition requests from lab printer daily and files appropriately; discharges and transports patients; prepares weekly schedule and faxes to Admitting; assists in cleaning suites between procedures when needed; assists with cleaning of scopes between procedures when needed; adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards; abides by and enforces all hospital policies including those pertaining to confidentiality; utilizes appropriate customer relations skills with physicians, patients, families and health care team in person and via telephone; responds to overhead pages; notifies charge nurse when leaving unit; regular and prompt attendance; the ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required; related duties as required.

Minimum Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent.

Working Days and Hours:

Monday - Friday
8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
