This position is responsible for coordinating the administrative functions at the nursing station and assisting with resident care needs as directed. Maintains nursing station in neat and organized fashion. Ensures that nursing station is stocked with appropriate supplies and materials at all times. Maintains order and organization of clinical records at the nursing station. Answers telephone at nursing station and, based on the nature of the call and/or information requested, either follows up or directs call to appropriate nurse. Files documents / forms in clinical records. Regularly “thins” open clinical records removing non-current documents in accordance with approved protocols. Assists Clinical Records department with tracking of physician visits and recertifications for resident on the unit. Mails telephone order slips to physician(s) and files in appropriate clinical record when telephone order slips are returned with signature. Prepares clinical chart for new admissions. Schedules outside appointments for residents. Arranges resident transportation to and from outside appointments.

Minimum Qualifications:

Must hold a Virginia certification as a CNA or be eligible to obtain Virginia CNA certification within 120 days of employment. One year previous experience in long term care. Experience in customer service environment that required good communication skills and proper telephone etiquette. Must demonstrate verbal and written communication skills (in the English language) sufficient to perform the principle duties and responsibilities outlined in this position description. Capable of performing the following minimum physical requirements: heavy lifting such as transferring residents from bed to wheelchair and / or lifting and carrying heavy objects; stooping, bending, kneeling, and reaching such as bathing a resident, wiping spills off floor, making a bed, lifting food trays from a cart, placing materials on shelves, etc.; frequent walking; pushing and pulling heavy carts such as food carts, medication carts, hand trucks, etc.; climbing stairs, stools, ladders.
