Description

Peer Health Exchange (PHE) is a national non-profit organization whose mission is to give teenagers the knowledge and skills they need to make healthy decisions. We do this by training college students to teach a comprehensive health curriculum in public high schools that lack health education. Since our founding in 2003, we have trained over 5,000 college student volunteers to deliver effective health education to over 57,000 public high school students in Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York City, and the San Francisco Bay Area. PHE launched in Washington DC in the fall of 2012 and has trained over 100 volunteers at George Washington Univserity and Howard University to teach 9th graders at six partner schools.

The primary responsibilities of the PHE Washington, DC Program Associate will be to assist with the development, management, growth, and evaluation of the Washington, DC Program and to assist the Washington, DC Executive Director. The Washington, DC Program Associate reports to the Washington, DC Executive Director.

Start Date: March/April 2012.

Responsibilities

The PHE Washington, DC Program Associate will:

• Develop, manage, grow, and evaluate the PHE Program at two PHE DC College Sites by:

o Supervising volunteer recruitment and selection
o Leading the training of college students in leadership skills (managing a peer group, leading effective meetings), teaching skills (public speaking, facilitation, and classroom management), and health information
o Managing college student leaders on an ongoing basis
o Assessing volunteer performance
o Collecting, analyzing, and reporting data for program evaluation
o Attending PHE volunteer meetings on some weekday evenings and weekends

• Develop, manage, grow, and evaluate PHE Washington, DC Partner High Schools by:

o Developing and maintaining partnerships with DC public high schools
o Supervising the scheduling and teaching of PHE workshops in Partner High Schools
o Collecting, analyzing, and reporting data for program evaluation
o Observing PHE workshops in Partner High Schools

• Assist in raising funds for the PHE Washington, DC Site by:

o Researching potential funders
o Preparing fundraising materials, including grant applications and individual appeal materials
o Assisting in preparation for PHE fundraising events

• Provide administrative support by:

o Copying and filing PHE materials
o Purchasing, distributing, and maintaining PHE office supplies and equipment
o Planning, purchasing, distributing, and maintaining materials for College Sites and Partner High Schools
o Assisting in reporting PHE assets, revenue, and expenditures

• Assist the PHE Washington, DC Executive Director

Qualifications

Peer Health Exchange is looking for someone who:
• Has a Bachelors degree
• 1-2 years work experience preferred
• Has a demonstrated passion for PHE’s mission
• Has leadership experience supervising, managing, and training others
• Has excellent public speaking, writing, and editing skills
• Has excellent organizational skills and is extremely detail-oriented
• Has strong interpersonal skills
• Has command of all Microsoft Office programs, especially Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
• Is efficient in managing diverse tasks, activities, and projects
• Is flexible and willing to work non-traditional hours as needed, including the facilitation of evening and weekend meetings with volunteers, and extended hours in early fall and spring
• Is comfortable in a fast-paced, high energy, entrepreneurial environment
• Has a valid drivers license
