Position Summary :
NRDC is seeking an Intern to work in its Santa Monica, CA office. The intern will work with the Water Efficiency program by assisting in research on the implementation of water conservation legislation. The intern will work on evaluating the accuracy of water use reported in Urban Water Management Plans, prepared by urban water suppliers as required by the Water Conservation Act of 2009, also known as “20x2020”. Responsibilities will include research on population (historical and projected), evaluations of baseline water use calculations, and assisting NRDC staff in the collection of data, data analysis, and report writing. This is an unpaid 3 month internship .

Learning Objective :
The selected intern will gain valuable experience evaluating the implementation of environmental legislation in California and understanding the role organizations like NRDC play in the implementation of such legislation. The intern will also gain valuable insight into the role that the analysis of technical data plays at a leading environmental non-profit organization.

Skills and Knowledge Requirements :
Open to students currently enrolled in a civil/environmental engineering, water resources, urban planning, public policy or related college graduate program or a law degree program.

Interest in water supply, water conservation, and water use efficiency issues.

Strong data analysis skills.

Ability to write in a clear/concise manner.

Fluent in written and spoken English.

Proficient in water efficiency and legislation terminology preferred.

Knowledge of ArcGIS a plus.

Ability to commit 15-20 hours per week.
