Plant Operator’s (POs) are responsible for the operation & maintenance duties at two water treatment facilities, two water supply facilities, elevated and ground storage tanks, and two pressure zones including the associated pump and storage facilities. POs are required to monitor treatment process components to ensure efficient and effective operations. Certified POs are required to work without direct supervision or solo on a shift.

Minimum Requirements

PO II Grade C NC Surface Water Treatment Operators License; minimum 1 yr of experience in a surface water treatment facility; Grade 204, $ 31,283 – $37,539
PO I Requires the ability to acquire Grade C Surface Water Treatment License within 1 yr of employment; no experience required; Grade 203, $29,512 – $35,414

· HS Diploma or equivalent
  • NC Class "C" Driver's License
  • Readily accessible by phone with ability to work “on-call”
  • Basic math & chemistry calculations to accurately read meters & charts, maintain required records, & interpret readings to make necessary adjustments to treatment processes
  • Make mixed arithmetic calculations involving multiplication, addition, subtraction, & division of whole numbers, decimals, & fractions
