Atkins seeks an energetic, highly motivated, detail-oriented, self-starter to join our team in Tampa as a Water Quality Technician. Under direct supervision, this person will provide competent technical support as needed to engineers or scientists working in environmental or other technical services of the company. This person will perform assignments applying some practical knowledge of mathematics and principles of science to support related company projects. He or she will utilize analytical ability such as required to research technical or scientific information, verify measurements and process data as prescribed.
Typical duties and responsibilities of this job include:
Collects and analyzes environmental samples (from boat and/or land); enters data in computer and maintains sampling equipment.
Performs quality control reviews on collected data.
Performs mathematical calculations.
Prepares graphic displays and presentation materials.
Assists technical professionals by writing preliminary reports.
Performs such other duties as the supervisor may from time to time deem necessary.
Ideal Candidates will possess the following:
High School Diploma (or equivalent) plus four years related environmental science experience OR an Associate's Degree in a related technical field plus two years of related experience is required.
Good mathematical and analytical skills, SAS (or similar statistical programming language) experience preferred.
Experience with field collection methodologies for water quality and/or biological monitoring (multi-parameter sondes, Kemmerer, remotely deployed data loggers, benthic grabs, ISCO stormwater samplers, etc.) preferred.
Problem solving skill s and technical writing skills a plus.
Boating experience preferred.
