As the Water / Wastewater Principal Engineer you will be responsible for the Engineering Support Group in the Water Services Division. This group consists of the following subteams: Water/Wastewater Standards, Professional Land Surveyors, Designers and a Senior Engineer responsible for corrosion protection.
Responsibilities include:
Providing leadership, supervision, project management and subject matter expertise related to water/wastewater standards
Generating, reviewing and approving revisions to water distribution and wastewater collection standards and material specifications
Providing expert technical guidance to other departments regarding design standards and approval of alternate methods and/or materials
Assuring conformance to specifications through coordination, design, installation and control of projects; ensuring safety through compliance with rules and procedures
Evaluating impact of regulatory and administrative directives from outside authorities
Developing and conducting presentations to the Utilities Board, managers, officers, stakeholders and the public. Conducting public process to secure input and suggestions, answering questions, educating, informing and serving as a subject matter expert
Representing Colorado Springs Utilities on a variety of sub-committees and work groups
Evaluating and recommending remediation and rehabilitation efforts
Managing training and oversight of field and support engineers; mentoring and coaching new engineers

With dozens of pump stations, tanks and lift stations, several treatment plants and thousands of miles of pipelines this opportunity will provide intellectually challenging work. We are big enough to have a large variety of projects but small enough where you will be involved with many of those projects. You will work across all areas of our water system from raw water collection and treatment to potable and non-potable distribution.
What will it take to be successful in this position? A Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited college and a Professional Engineer (P.E.) certification or ability to obtain within a year is required. Engineering experience in water / wastewater design, engineering standards, and corrosion, as well as experience working with surveyors is helpful.
