The Web Designer is responsible for the design, production, and maintenance of online content from initial request through development, production and deployment. This includes the Aquarium web site, mobile sites, social media and e-mails. This responsibility includes, but is not limited to: stakeholder interaction, content and interaction design, image production, page construction, quality control and testing. The Web Designer supports the Senior Web Designer in providing design solutions that promote the Aquarium goals and standards.
Translate concepts and ideas into engaging visual presentations and design solutions that account for user behavior and how information is best presented online
Conceptualize and create easy-to-use and meaningful user interfaces based on usablity best practices
Develop attractive and brand consistent designs that adhere to the Aquarium styleguide and design standards
Produce layouts/UIs, patterns, color palettes, typography, wireframes, workflows, iconography and user interface elements
Apply HTML/CSS and scripting to develop prototypes, format content, and build final pages
Ensure designs are multi-platform/browser compliant prior to delivering to Quality Assurance
Develop in a CMS (Content Management Tool) environment
Perfom recurring tasks, routine maintenance, updates and upgrades to existing pages and respond to ad hoc requests
Use the catalog of images available to MBA communication initiatives
Integrate design with work of content developers and technology experts through the development, design, presentation, and production stages
Collaborate with internal departments (publications, print graphics, and exhibits) to ensure consistent style and efficient coordination of projects
Support the Sr. Web Designer in maintaining, documenting and evolving the Aquarium visual identity online
BA or Master's degree in web design or integration (or equivalent training or experience
2-5 years directly related work experience
Interest and knowledge of design and coding standards for mobile
Working knowledge of a variety of design, production and interactive prototyping tools including Photoshop or Fireworks
Experience with CMS tools
Solid understanding of user interface design for desktop and mobile, including usability, industry standards, architecture and navigation. Be able to evaluate complex visual design trade-offs
Thorough understanding of web design, color theory, layout and typography
Strong presentation skills with the ability to lead design critiques and explain visual design concepts to non-designers
Proven experience of taking a product from concept to release in a deadline drive environment
Exceptional conceptual, analytical, communication skills
Ability to collaborate effectively on multi-disciplinary teams
Ability to follow and complete directions thoroughly and with attention to detail
Flexibility to adapt to rapidly changing project parameters
Willingness and commitment to stay abreast of web technology and learn new skills and programs
