The Web Editor serves as the editor-in-chief of the school's website, and the curator of all content for the school's presence on social media platforms. This includes making editorial decisions about which news items to feature, working with all departments at the school to ensure that content throughout the website is clear and up-to-date, and writing and revising copy as described below. The position also requires technical skills to update design features of the website and the ability to produce meaningful analytic reports about web traffic.

Responsibilities include producing video elements for the school's website and social media outlets.

This position reports to the Associate Dean for Communications

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES

Website
  • Write news stories and copy, including landing page content, headlines and photo captions, to reach the school's multiple online audiences: prospective students, students, faculty, administration, alumni, and the professional journalists.
  • Respond to "web-requests" from all departments at the school: updating and editing copy and design features on the site, as well as selecting and cropping photos and creating slide shows. This includes front-end design and minimal coding (should be familiar with HTML), and requires working in collaboration with members of the technical team who built and maintain the website's proprietary CMS.
  • Update the homepage daily to keep content fresh; work with photographers to assign photo shoots.
  • Maintain the site's news and event archive, with photos and links to audio and video elements; post press releases to the appropriate section of the website.
  • Monitor student work being published and promote it on the site and via social media.
  • Oversee copy-editing for all pages of the site and maintain a quality control plan to uphold editorial standards and consistency of voice.
  • Create engaging design elements for the website, including graphics that adhere to the site's design standards.
  • Produce monthly analytic reports about web traffic to inform content and design aspects of the website.
Social Media
  • Produce content that is engaging and appropriate for the school's presence on all social media platforms, including Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn.
Video
  • Oversee live-streaming of special events; produce short videos about the school to feature on the homepage, in social media, and to populate the school's Vimeo channel.
Photo archive /design work
  • Maintain photo archive and logo portfolio for school-wide use on the website and in promotional materials. Design occasional pieces for the department, such as designing online invitations for special events.
  • Work with and support outside vendors, including graphic designers, marketing and web professionals, and social media consultants.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned, including curating content for lobby monitors, sending out a daily digest of emails, and assisting with the Communication Department's special events.
Minimum Qualifications for Grade

Bachelor's degree and/or its equivalent required. Minimum 3-5 years' related experience.

  • Excellent writing skills. Strong editorial/journalistic sensibility on what constitutes news, and how to effectively convey news in terms of content and design, to our multiple audiences (current students; alumni; faculty, staff and the journalism profession).
  • Fluency in social media, including knowledge of how to build an audience on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and other social media platforms.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, to work collaboratively with the technical staff, faculty, other staff, and all units of the school. Must be equally able to work in groups and alone to complete projects.
  • Technical skills: Photoshop, Final Cut Pro, Flash, Content Management Systems, HTML, Acrobat, full Adobe suite.
  • Superior organizational and communication skills, including the ability to manage short and long term projects.
  • Ability to work on deadline, and turn projects around quickly, when warranted.
  • Self-starter: possess the ability to create new and more efficient ways of tracking and disseminating information and contribute new ideas to web design and social media.
