Position performs general skilled welding and metal fabrication work on departmental vehicles, equipment, and facilities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Illustrative only):
  • Rebuilds and repairs equipment which requires cutting, welding, or fabricating steel items, including cleaning equipment in preparation for repairs
  • Performs duties including repair of vehicles, other equipment, bridges, and welding projects for other departments as needed
  • Assists in maintaining cleanliness of shop and working order of welding equipment, drill presses, grinders, and welding truck
  • Performs inventories, orders, and maintains stock of fabrication steel and welding supplies
  • Performs other duties as assigned or directed including snow plowing

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Five (5) years of training or paid, full-time work experience as a full performance level welder/fabricator
  • Must be willing and able to work significant overtime as requested

LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Wisconsin Class A Commercial Driver License with "N" endorsement and no "L" restriction (air brakes) and acceptable driving record within six (6) months of hire
  • In accordance with regulations, individuals performing duties requiring a Commercial Driver License are required to pass pre-employment drug screening and will be subject to random and post-accident drug and alcohol testing during the course of employment
  • Appointment will be conditional upon successful completion of a criminal background check and pre-employment physical, with 100-pound lifting ability
  • Must possess and maintain certification as a Forklift Operator within three (3) months of hire
  • Must furnish set of tools including: hammers, punches, small clamps, screwdrivers, impact sockets, and hand wrenches up to 13"
  • Must establish residency within 45-minute response time by automobile to all Highway Department shops within one year of hire, and maintain such residency thereafter during employment
