What You’ll Do

John Deere Waterloo Works is seeking a

Welding Engineer

to provide support and troubleshooting for current and future welding operations. In this position you will also:

Provide support & troubleshooting for current welding operations.

Establish part routings, methods, documentation such as Mechanical Data Sheets, sequence of events, layouts, tool conception & design, part & equipment costs, quality plans & labor standards.

Support the launch of new product lines, model year changes & running changes.

Work closely with Product Design & Quality groups on Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design Process & Assembly Review (DPAR), Functional Geometry Review (FGR) & Process Failure Modes & Effects Analysis (PFMEA).

Address quality issues by utilizing Root Cause Analysis, mistake proofing & analysis data. Working with design, tooling, advanced technologies, maintenance & other functional areas to resolve issues.

Train operators in welding processes, safety practices, specifications & quality workmanship.

Procure equipment & tooling for semi-automatic & robotic weld cells.

Identify & implement Continuous Improvement (CI) projects (ie: cost reduction, quality, safety, ergonomics & product delivery).

Work with electronic tools to perform engineering functions.

Investigate, gather, and analyze data for specifically assigned tasks related to safety, quality, or productivity and implement solutions.

Design lean manufacturing layouts to improve material flow & material presentation.

Implement new manufacturing processes & technology.

Support capital expenditure investigations by developing accurate cost estimates & justifications for: equipment, tooling, facilities & labor.

Investigate, gather & analyze data for identifying root cause of welding/manufacturing issues.

Participate in team studies related to capacity, productivity & efficiency.

What It Takes

We need an excellent communicator, who thrives on solving problems and working in a team environment. Ideally, you will have a Bachelor’s Degree in

Welding Engineering

,

Welding Engineering Technology

or

Mechanical/Manufacturing/Industrial Engineering with Welding Emphasis.

Considerations in lieu of above: Bachelor’s Degree in an

Engineering

discipline with

2+ years welding experience

or an Associate Degree in an

Engineering

discipline with

5+ years welding experience

. In addition, we require:
Hands on knowledge of Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW).

Good knowledge of manufacturing weld processes, quality, tooling, tool design, total preventative maintenance and facilities.

Experience with line design, material presentation, cycles of imbalance and visual management tools.

Ability to effectively interact and communicate with wage employees, supervisors and other engineers.

A strong candidate will also possess:
Experience programming and troubleshooting robotic welding applications in a manufacturing environment. (ie: Fanuc and/or Motoman systems)

Experience using computer aided design and/or engineering tools (ie: Pro/E, AutoCAD, VisMockup, etc.)

Understanding of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).

Experience with line design, material presentation, cycles of imbalance & visual management tools.

Knowledge of capital budgeting & equipment justification.

Experience with shop floor manufacturing and incentive pay systems.

Understanding of processes to introduce new products.

Experience in project management and business planning; small strategic projects or large tactical projects.

Experience using SAP.

Understanding of Lean Manufacturing.

Work experience in a union environment.
