The AOC is responsible for the maintenance, operation, development and preservation of 17.4 million square feet of buildings and more than 553 acres of land throughout Capitol Hill. ***This position require that the incumbent must be certified as a Life Guard and in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CRP) and must be skilled in the use of the Automatic Electronic Defibrillator (AED). The selectee will have six months after their effective date to do lifeguard training and CPR/AED training***
This position is located in the House Wellness Center in the House Office Buildings. The incumbent assists in the operation of the facility and in the provision of services to Members of Congress.
Responsible for regularly scheduled physical maintenance and cleaning of the facility. Maintenance includes various cleaning and laboring duties. Scope of repairs includes minor mechanical and electrical tasks. Inventories supplies and equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance. Requests and acquires supplies and equipment.
Provides customer services to Members of Congress. Customer services may include: personalized laundry service for Members’ exercise attire; linens laundry services for Members’ quiet rooms; towel service; drinking water service; telephone messaging for Members; and facility-wide announcement of roll call floor votes for Members.
Acts as a safety attendant in pool areas, explains and demonstrates use of facility apparatuses and equipment, and independently oversees facility operations and services during times when supervisors are not present. Surveys all facility areas to know Member occupancy and assure Members’ safety and security.
Administers cardiorespiratory resuscitation (CPR/CCR), automated external defibrillator (AED), and first aid to Members of Congress in case of emergency. Maintains CPR/AED and blood borne pathogens training. Complies with all safety and health practices, OSHA regulations, and wears required protective equipment.
Tests swimming pool water chemistry (chlorine, pH,alkalinity,etc). Recommends any necessary pool water treatment to the AOC division that operates the swimming pool pump room or the facility supervisor who help operate the swimming pool. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Back to top

Candidates for the GS- 07 grade level must have at least 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes knowledge of practices and techniques necessary for the exercise activities for adults along with knowledge of principles and practices to operate exercise equipment.
