INTERNAL POSTING FOR SCDNR EMPLOYEES ONLY

Assists with planning, scheduling and general administrative tasks associated with the recreational creel census. Interviews recreational fisherman at various access sites in Charleston & Collection Counties and inspects catches of recreational anglers measuring fish and collecting otoliths according to established sampling procedures. Codes and enters data collected following standardized procedures. Participates in select field activities for assessing commercial fisheries landings by collecting size and species composition data, and interviewing captains/dock operators for trip information and fishery trends.

Minimum and Additional Requirements:

A bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry or a field relevant to the specific job.

Knowledge of basic scientific data collection procedures. Ability to identify to species level common South Atlantic fishes, take length measurements and extract otoliths from specific species. Ability to interact effectively with individuals within the commercial and recreational fishing sectors. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Access database for data entry. Knowledge of SC marine fisheries laws and commercial/ recreational fishing trends.
