INTERNAL POSTING FOR SCDNR EMPLOYEES ONLY

Prepare all aspects of field data collection prior to the field season in collaboration with MARMAP logistics coordinator and SEFIS counterpart. Tasks include preparing navigational software to include sampling stations and other pertinent information, select sampling stations, prepare software for fish measuring boards, prepare software for electronic sampling log, end prepare vessel computers (in collaboration with logistics staff). Ensure all software associated with field sampling are updated, fully functional, and functioning backups are made and available if needed. Ensure paper forms are available for data collection. Coordinate related activities pertinent logistics staff and vessel captains and crew. Coordinate all field data acquisition related issues with sister programs to assure data consistency. Conduct QA/QC on all field data from project related Reef Fish Survey research cruises. Ensure that data are clean and included in the MARMAP/SEAMAP-SA Reef Fish database. Coordinate data management with pertinent staff in the outside DNR. Assist with or prepare annual cruise reports based on these data.

Minimum and Additional Requirements:

A master's degree in biology, chemistry or a related field; or a bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry or a related field and two (2) years of experience relevant to the job.

Preferred Qualifications:
INTERNAL POSTING FOR SCDNR EMPLOYEES ONLY

Bachelors degree in marine science, biology, fishery science, or related field and three (3) years of relevant work experience. Experience with at-sea research, overseeing the deployment fishing gear. Experience with fisheries independent field data acquisition and related equipment and software. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Knowledge of reef fish biology.

Additional Comments:

A working understanding of fish biology. Understanding of information (data) pertaining finfish collected on board research vessels ( >100 ft in length). Experience at sea using a variety of offshore sampling and fishing gears. Ability to lead offshore and shore-based field sampling crews. Must be self-motivated and have excellent attention to detail and interpersonal (communication) skills. Experience with setting up and connecting computer hardware and interest in learning field data software.
