The Wind Electrical Systems (WES) Lead Engineer is an integral part of the wind product and design process. Reporting directly to the Engineering Manager of the WES organization, the WES Lead Engineer is a key person for successful, high quality NPI execution, fulfillment and field issue support.
This role is a global engineering role where the scope of the WES team includes electrical systems and components for GE wind turbines. The range of components that span generators, power cables, medium voltage switchgears, transformers to electrical tower internals, cable harnesses, slip-rings and aviation lights as well as including the definition of the testing and inspection of wind turbine assemblies on the shop floor. The broad electrical scope of the team provides an opportunity for the WES Lead Engineer to optimize turbine electrical systems and components. In addition, you will:
Execute Engineering design work on wind turbine electrical components and their assembly within the wind turbine system.
Full component ownership. Starting with the definition of characteristics across technical clarification, interface definition, prototyping, testing, introduction into manufacturing up to issue resolution in the installed fleet
Definition and control of complete technical documentation of electrical components and subassemblies, including specifications, bills of material, drawings, 3D-models, and schematics
Ensure compliance of components to international codes and standards like IEC, UL, CSA, ISO, CE, CCC, DIN etc.
Work with global and cross-functional teams to leverage ‘Best Practice’ for electrical component testing and validation procedures
Preparation of design / analysis documentation, e.g. Design Practices, design record book articles, Work Desk Instructions (WDI), and Manufacturing manuals
Support Sourcing organization for new supplier qualification and supplier audits e.g. by conducting first piece qualifications
Support site root cause analysis on technical issues
Work closely with the Technical Leaders and global team members to ensure high quality and on-time delivery for all engineering assignments
Bachelor of Science or Applied Science in Electrical Engineering
Minimum 5 years’ experience of electrical components, applications and practices
Ability and willingness to travel, as required

Proven wind engineering experience

Demonstrated ability to document, plan, and execute multiple NPI program deliverables
