This is a lead position within Technical Publications, creating, developing, planning, writing and editing operational, instructional, maintenance or test procedures for paper, multimedia or web-based publication. As a lead, this position will assume responsibility for managing projects independently. Conducts interviews with various users and technical staff to gather data for documentation. Researches and translates technical information into manuals and/or web-based documents for nontechnical and technical users. Documents engineering processes and specifications. Recommends formats responsive to technical and customer requirements. Produces products that conform to the company documentation and quality assurance standards.
Conceptualizes, plans, develops, and writes documentation sets, including concept, reference, and task-oriented information, targeted for different audiences.
Identifies, plans, and revises technical writing project requirements and deliverables, and researches complex source material for associated projects.
Works with program/project teams to develop various engineering specifications, field procedures, and software and hardware user documentation.
Works with engineers in lab and test environments, interviews technical staff, collects source material, and conducts procedure validation with cross-functional technical experts for use in the field.
Studies engineering specifications to integrate and delineate technology, operating procedure, and post-procedure testing sequence and detail.
Organizes material and completes writing assignment according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology.
Works closely with Engineering, Customer Support, and Technical Training to design, write, and deliver professional product documentation.
Meets with various departments to discuss document requirements and gather data to be included in the documents.
Reviews SEMI/ANSI and corporate standard to verify and update documentation conformance to environmental, health, and safety guidelines.
Conducts testing of documentation for correctness and usability.
Tracks product updates and ensures that they are reflected in the documentation.
Participates in team meetings and contribute to the establishment of improved documentation processes.
Participates in project planning, attends project meetings, reviews written content, and coordinates technical review and validation cycles.
Evaluates new technologies to improve Technical Publication processes and outputs and maintains competencies with DITA, XML, and single-sourced documentation methodologies.
Participates in defining content development strategies and work with authors to guide them on how to create content per defined standards.
Works with writers and technical resources to improve document quality and usability.
Maintains current knowledge of technical writing techniques, tools, methodologies, and user interface development guidelines.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Excellent written, verbal, and oral communication skills.
Ability to translate, statistically analyze data, and effectively report problems through written and/or graphical formats.
Excellent customer service skills, with an advanced understanding of customer relationship building.
Ability to us MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and electronic e-mail systems.
Excellent writing skills and demonstrated experience with database development technologies such as XML and reuse technologies and techniques.
Expertise with HTML and XML editors, Adobe software, and FrameMaker.
Ability to accurately interpret engineering and other technical material and information.
Knowledge of and experience in electrical and mechanical engineering; ability to read schematics and produce specification documents.
Ability to adapt quickly to change and work successfully in an evolving environment.
High degree of self-motivation and strong orientation toward teamwork.
Comprehensive knowledge of the technical writing process, including planning and development.
Ability to work in a very fast paced, deadline-driven environment.
Able to plan and lead a major documentation project or improvement initiative with multiple writers and other team members.
Extensive knowledge of structuring content into topics for maximized reuse; deliverables include DITA topics, DITA maps, user guides, functional specifications, deployment guides, case studies, and code samples.
Expertise in document conversion, including styles and tags, across multiple applications (ex: Word to FrameMaker to XML)
Excellent organization and planning skills with proven project management experience.
Knowledge of XML, DITA, and object orientated databases and experience with content management systems.
Solid command of the English language and the ability to articulate complex technical concepts in written form. Strong organizational and analytical skills.
Ability to identify the significantly complex information needs of target audiences, develop appropriate documentation plans, and manage the execution of those plans.
Ability to solve a wide range of complex problems related to creation and maintenance of documentation sets in creative and practical ways.
Strong competence with the various tools, procedures, programming languages used to accomplish the job. Minimum of five (5) years of experience is required.
Minimum of five (5) years in advanced-level technical writing and document management.
Strong technical background with a BSEE degree or equivalent technical degree.
Minimum of three (3) years working with HTML, XML, and DITA.
Experience in leading successful technical project management implementation.
Proven proficiency in FrameMaker, XMetaL, MS Word, and publishing tools, including template design.
Familiarity with version and source control software systems and content and learning management systems.
