Murdoch Developmental Center is a state residential facility for individuals with intellectual disabilities/developmental disabilities, located in Butner, North Carolina, near the Research Triangle area. Murdoch is a caring community where professionals work with people of various ages, cognitive, and functional abilities. The Youth Program Education Assistant I (YPEA) located at Meadowview Cottage provides specialized direct services to individuals with extreme behavioral challenges. YPEA I’s in the Specialized Treatment of Adolescent Residential Setting ( STARS ) Unit provides direct services to dual diagnosis developmental disability & mental illness (ID/MI) Adolescents ages 13-17. Youth Program Education Assistant I (YPEA) must be attentive to carrying out programs accurately and appropriately; capable of intervening with individuals who are agitated or out of control; capable of reporting orally and in writing; capable of lifting or assisting in lifting individuals; and capable of monitoring the environment for safety concerns. Training covers a broad area and includes such entities as activities of daily living, pre-vocational opportunities, leisure activities, behavior management and assisting with outings. Scheduled hours will include rotating weekends and holidays.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies:
Demonstrated ability to carry out and make on the spot decisions about behavioral intervention programs especially in crisis situations. Knowledge of basic health care, hygiene and safety. Demonstrated ability to report information both orally and in writing. Must be knowledgeable of the emotional needs of individuals. Must have demonstrated ability to follow oral and written instructional; demonstrate ability to communicate effectively. Must have the ability to use Murdoch Center Program Library or a similar instructional system. **Employee will be required to complete North Carolina Intervention (NCI) skills and certification in first aid and CPR.**
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Associate's Degree in human services or related degree from an appropriately accredited institution; or high school or General Educational Development diploma and two years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
