This position is a Youth Program Education Assistant (YPEA) II in the P artners in A utism T reatment and H abilitation ( PATH ) Unit at Summerset Cottage . This position serves as the supervisor and will assign staff to schedule activities and insure that each employee under his/her supervision carries out assigned duties and responsibilities in the prescribed manner and within the framework of established policies. This position also provides specialized direct services to autistic children with extreme behavioral challenges. These services are in the form of behavioral programming, habilitative training/activities, and in assisting with health care needs to whatever degree is necessary. Training covers a broad area and includes complex behavioral programming, role modeling, on-the-spot counseling and decision making, transportation, crisis intervention, maintaining home-like setting, and such entities as self-help, communication, activities of daily living, generalization of skills learned in more formal settings, etc. Health care ranges from minimal levels of assistance with relatively independent individuals to extensive supervision to protect individuals from injuring themselves or others. Scheduled Work Hours: 5 days per week; 3rd shift, 10:45 PM – 6:45AM rotating weekends and holidays.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies:
Demonstrated ability to assign staff to scheduled activities and insure that each employee under his/her supervision carries out assigned duties and responsibilities in the prescribed manner and within the framework of established policies. Demonstrated ability to carry out and make on the spot decisions about behavioral intervention programs especially in crisis situations. Working knowledge off basic health care, hygiene and safety guidelines; Demonstrated abilities in a supervisory and leadership role; excellent behavior management skills; knowledge of the emotional needs of individuals; ability to follow oral and written instruction; ability to communicate effectively; ability to use Murdoch Center program Library or a similar instructional system. Employees will be required to complete the North Carolina Intervention (NCI) Skills and Certification in First Aid and CPR.
**EMPLOYEE WILL BE REQUIRED TO COMPLETE NORTH CAROLINA INTERVENTION (NCI) SKILLS AND CERTIFICATION IN FIRSTAIDAND CPR**.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Associate's Degree in human services or related degree from an appropriately accredited institution, and one year of directly related experience; or high school or General Educational Development diploma and three years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
