Behavioral Health Services differs from other service providers in the Marana community in that it is the only rural health center in the area and the only local agency providing behavioral health services to the residents of Marana, Rillito, Picture Rocks, Avra Valley and Northwest Tucson. CHILD PSYCHIATRIST- Full Time
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF JOB: The Psychiatrist shall serve as a team member in the provisions of behavioral health services to member's under 18 years of age in accordance with the member's individual service plan under the guidelines of the Regional Behavioral Health Authority. The Psychiatrist will assume medical decision-making responsibilities in the assessment and management of our minor member's behavioral health disorders and the medications deemed appropriate in the treatment of such disorders.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Licensed as a MD or DO by the Arizona Board of Medical Examiners and licensed to practice as a physician.
Licensed by the Drug Enforcement Administration;
Must be a practitioner in good standing with the agency with practice and privileges consistent with clinical qualifications;
Must have knowledge of the special needs of children, brain injured, and substance abuse populations.
Experience working within a managed care system preferred.
Experience working within the Arizona Rbha system preferred.
Experience working in community based or rural health setting preferred.
Competent computer skills using MS Office products, Word, Excel, Access and EHR.
CPR certified. First Aide certified, if appropriate.
Fingerprint clearance through DPS.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Works collaboratively with the Director of Psychiatric Services to assure optimal care to all behavioral health members while assuring cost effective use of all treatments including medications.
Conducts psychiatric evaluations, prescribes and monitors medications, as appropriate.
Provide consultation and education to all parents, other family members, members, as appropriate, and staff on medication regimes and side effects.
Work collaboratively with MHC primary care providers to assure prescriptions are not duplicated, appropriate lab tests are ordered and screened with follow up.
Adhere to the practice standards of the local community, ADHS/CPSA regulations and policies related to the treatment of persons suffering from substance abuse and mental illnesses.
Participate in Child Family Team meetings, Team Meetings, and other clinical meetings, as appropriate to maximize the recovery of all members.
Effectively meet member needs, utilizing available resources while assuring member is maintained in the least restrictive environment possible.
Provide education to members, as appropriate, their parents/families, and to staff member related to medication, mental health diagnosis and medical conditions.
Adhere to guidelines related to pharmacy practices.
Obtain Prior Authorizations for restricted proprietary or non-formulary medications and approval for procedures such as ECT, neurological or psychological testing, or placement through the Director of Psychiatric Services.
Responsible for meeting encounter requirements, as specified.
Record and document member information in a quality and timely manner.
Provides all members with appropriate referrals to other community agencies as needed or requested.
Follows professional and ethical practices when working with members, member records, families and community personnel.
Maintains confidentiality of member/family information.
Works effectively with all members and families to promote a milieu of trust while providing excellent customer service within a ‘recovery model' of care.
Utilizes appropriate channels for reporting/discussing/solving problems or concerns. Discusses staff concerns with particular staff member prior to involving Department Director, Director of Psychiatric Services, HR Director, CEO or other staff members.
Assumes responsibility for understanding guidelines and procedures for all Department contracts and requests clarification, if necessary.
Observes applicable state and federal laws. Assumes responsibility for knowledge of laws and requests clarification, if necessary.
Has a thorough knowledge of all Marana Health Center policies and procedures, including those for PTO, exempt and nonexempt status and uses accordingly.
Uses appropriate incident reporting procedures when documenting unsafe or problematic incidents involving patients, members and/or staff. Completes Incident Report accurately and follows procedures completely.
Completes other tasks as requested by Chief of Behavioral Health, Director of Psychiatric Services, CEO or other MHC Administrative Staff.
