$12.00-$15.00 per game
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Officiate at sporting events, games, or competitions to maintain standards of play and to ensure that game rules are observed. Enforce all recreational sports rules and policies. Examine the playing surface before every game to ensure safe playing conditions. Use appropriate signals and mechanics. Maintain a high level of professionalism, sportsmanship, and penalize unsporting behavior as game rules allow. Communicate any problems or concerns to the supervisor. Performs other duties as assigned.
Age: 16 and older (18 years of age required for Adult Sports programs).
Education/Experience: Equivalent training and experience that will demonstrate required knowledge, abilities and skills. Must have great customer relations and communication skills as well as reliable transportation.
Knowledge: Knowledge of the various sports and rules for assigned game.
Abilities: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with participants, employees and citizens; handle sensitive or difficult situations with tact and diplomacy; communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Licenses, Certificates, or Equipment Required: Must provide own personal protective equipment and standardized uniforms as defined by City of Aurora. This position may require the incumbent to occasionally use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment.
Physical Demands: Moderate physical work requiring ability to lift a maximum of 20 pounds; standing for athletic competition for multiple games or hours at a time; regular lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds; walking and standing to monitor game play; some pushing, pulling, flexing, climbing, bending, kneeling and crouching; hand/eye coordination to operate equipment and make signals; vision to observe games, frequent hearing and speech to communicate with participants, employees, and citizens.
Work Environment: Works indoors. Ability to deal with and handle verbal heckling from emotional players, parents and spectators.
Equipment Used: Scoreboards and athletic field equipment.
