JOB TITLE: Youth Worker, Part-Time
WORK SCHEDULE: Monday through Friday, 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.; some weekend and evening hours
SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for providing supervision of children, academic instruction and homework assistance for students of varying ages (fourth – twelfth grades). The Youth Worker is responsible for providing mentoring, curriculum planning and implementation, and for leading youth development and recreational activities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides leadership and serves as a role model for program participants.
Uses a range of effective strategies to engage youth and parents and promote the positive social and academic development of participants.
Assists in the analysis of participant’s strengths and weaknesses and formulation of plans to support participants’ progress.
Meets regularly with parents, school staff and others to assess the progress of participants.
Cultivates youth services enrollment and recruitment through community and school-based outreach, letters, calls, and other means of communication.
Manages records, files, and database entries for after school participants.
Addresses complaints and resolves problems.
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree and experience with urban youth preferred. HSD/GED and at least 2 years of post-secondary education required.
Drivers’ license is required.
Commitment to gender-specific programming and positive youth development required.
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from group managers, consumers, customers, and the general public.
Bilingual in Spanish and/or other language is a plus.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
Ability to interpret a variety instruction furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Must possess ability to assist with middle and high school level academic assignments.
Excellent organizational skills.
Excellent writing and interpersonal skills.
Detail and production-oriented self-starter.
Computer literate.
Ability to work as a team player.
Requires acceptable results of CORI check according to Goodwill policy and DDS requirements.

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or listen. The employee frequently required to stand and walk. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms.
- The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10lbs, frequently lift and/or move up to 25lbs, occasionally lift and/or move up to 50lbs. Specific vision ability required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:

- The noise level in the environment is usually moderate.
Health Requirements: As required by the Department of Early Education and Childcare:
1. Evidence of a physical examination within one year prior to employment;
2. Evidence of immunity to measles, mumps and rubella;
3. Negative Mantoux TB test in accordance with current Department of Public Health regulations;
4. Statement of physical limitations in working with children, if applicable.
