GENERAL SUMMARY

The Assistant Park Technician, under direction of the Columbus Commons Operation Manager, shall perform a variety of semi-skilled duties involved in the planting, care, and maintenance of park grounds, and to perform specialized projects as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

All applicants must meet these requirements to be considered for this position;

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and unconventional schedules, including evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to complete responsibilities and tasks in an unsupervised environment.
  • Valid driver license, reliable vehicle, good driving record per agency policy, and current auto insurance.
  • Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include one or more of the following:

o Bending, squatting, twisting and kneeling.
o Repeated lifting of objects up to 60 lbs.
o Walking for extended periods of time.
o Performing manual tasks for extended periods of time and in unfavorable weather conditions (temperatures over 75 degrees and below 32 degrees).
o Working in direct sunlight for more than 20 minutes a day.
o Working with hazardous materials.
o Exposure to air contaminants, noise, vibration and temperature extremes.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist Columbus Commons Park Technician in variety of plant maintenance and landscape duties including trimming trees and shrubs, pulling weeds, watering plants and trees, minor and major lawn repairs, raking recreation areas, sweeping, emptying trash cans and clearing trash and debris from the public paths and walkways.

Operate a variety of small engine landscape equipment, tractors, utility vehicles and hand tools. Perform general maintenance duties including refueling, and lubricating parts; make minor adjustments as necessary.

Assist in park inspections to ensure the safety of the public and park facilities; note possible
safety hazards or causes of injury; perform general maintenance and repair to park facilities as
required.

Janitorial duties to include but are not limited to; emptying trash, cleaning restrooms, wiping off tables and chairs, litter removal, cleaning windows, sweeping and mopping.

Applicant will interact with the public in a tactful, courteous and friendly manner at all times and under all circumstances.

Reports and removes any safety hazards; reads and interprets safety labels; understands and follows procedures to handle and store chemicals properly

Provide assistance and support services for recreational programs and special events.

Perform basic electrical work (change light bulbs, power shut on/off, etc.).

Salary: $12.50 per hour
