Ocean Ridge Biosciences (ORB), a South Florida-based contract research organization specializing in RNA Profiling and Biomarker Discovery, is currently seeking an ambitious and entrepreneurial scientist with expertise in scripting and analysis of complex data sets to fill the position of Bioinformatic Scientist.

Description: The Bioinformatic Scientist will perform processing and statistical analysis of genomics data derived from microarray and deep sequencing projects and will produce detailed and attractive analysis reports for ORB clients. The individual will take advantage of existing commercial software packages, open source applications, and script development tools to provide custom data analysis solutions in a timely manner. In addition, the Bioinformatic Scientist will contribute to the design and implementation of a software infrastructure at ORB for semi-automated processing and statistical analysis of genomics data derived from microarray and deep sequencing projects. Custom scripts and applications will be developed in Visual Basic, R, Perl, Python, Java, SQL, and other languages.

Requirements: The qualified candidate will possess a Ph.D. in biological, natural, or computer sciences with two or more years of recent experience in writing custom code for data analysis applications in biology. The experience requirement could be met as part of the research performed to complete the dissertation, not as coursework only. Alternatively, we will consider candidates holding a B.S. or M.S. in one of the above fields with 2+ years of post-graduate experience writing custom code for data analysis in the life sciences. The position requires proficiency in statistics and coding experience in two or more high-level scripting/programming languages including Visual Basic, R, Perl, Python, or Java. The candidate should also have experience working with databases such as MySQL and/or Microsoft Access. In-depth experience with the Linux operating system is also required.

The selected candidate must demonstrate both spoken and written fluency in the English language. Code must be well documented and candidate must be willing to maintain a verbose digital laboratory notebook. The selected candidate must be capable of maintaining well-organized paper and digital records of client and R&D analysis projects that will be easily accessible to company staff. The Bioinformatic Scientist must be able to communicate his/her ideas clearly through e-mail, in oral communications, and through production of well-drafted reports containing text and graphical elements. A strong work ethic, entrepreneurial spirit, and consistent positive attitude are required.

Although not essential, we would prefer a candidate with experience using multiple commercial and open source tools/platforms for processing of second-generation sequencing data for both RNA and DNA applications. Applications of interest include alternative splicing, de novo transcriptome assembly, de novo genome assembly, SNP analysis, and other genome resequencing applications (e.g. methylation, ChIP-Seq). Familiarity with statistical analysis algorithms for biomarker set selection and patient classification would be a plus, as would experience with Javascript and PHP for web applications.

Application Procedure: Via e-mail or through, please submit a cover letter describing your reasons for applying to ORB and a CV containing a list of scientific publications to which you have contributed.
