Reports to: Vice President, Embedded Technologies

Manages: Growing team of Analysts

Overview: The Director of the Embedded Hardware & Systems Practice is responsible for the management and execution of all of the practice’s syndicated and custom research programs. The Director will act as a player-coach, working directly with EHW Practice analysts and our clients to develop project schedules and budgets, define research instruments, develop analysis plans and coordinate all communications, and actively contribute to the execution of projects. The Director is responsible for managing all project resources to ensure the quality, timeliness and accuracy of research deliverables. Additionally, the Director must collaborate with Sales to cultivate new business opportunities. The Director reports to the practice Vice President and is typically involved with multiple concurrent research initiatives.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning, implementation and execution of research projects
  • Facilitate the definition of project scope, goals and deliverables
  • Define project tasks and resource requirements
  • Plan and schedule project timelines
  • Track project deliverables using appropriate tools
  • Provide direction and support to project team
  • Actively participate in all phases of research execution
  • Ensure high quality client deliverables
  • Constantly monitor and report on progress of the project to all stakeholders
  • Present reports defining project progress, problems and solutions
  • Implement and manage project changes and interventions to achieve project outputs
  • Serve as the practice’s representative to other departments on matters related to research execution
  • Advance VDC brand within embedded hardware industry
  • Cultivate new business through client facing activities and relationships

  • Strong analytical and modeling skills, including experience working with large datasets
  • Advanced Excel and/or SPSS skills

  • Strong understanding of business and marketing strategies, particularly related to technology businesses
  • Ability to interact directly with clients and drive new business
  • Desire to learn and work with others

Education and Experience

  • Knowledge of technology market research techniques and tools
  • Ideal candidate will have been an analyst covering embedded hardware products and/or worked in a product management, marketing or strategy role at a leading embedded hardware technology supplier.
  • Direct work experience in project management capacity
  • Expertise with all elements of ms office suite
  • Proven experience in people management
  • Proven experience in strategic planning
  • Minimum of Bachelors degree with Masters preferred
