The Campaign for High School Equity (CHSE) is a diverse coalition of national organizations representing communities of color and Native Americans that believe high schools should have the capacity and motivation to prepare every student for graduation, college, work, and life. CHSE represents Americans of all racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds, united under the mission of raising every U.S. high school to the high level of excellence that all of the country’s youth deserve and upon which the nation’s future depends. CHSE was formed on the behalf of the millions of students who are inadequately served by our nation’s high schools. The campaign’s mission is to ensure that high schools prepare all students for graduation, college, work, and life.
Position Summary

The Campaign for High School Equity seeks an Education Policy Analyst to study and report on federal and state policies and practices that promote high school reform, particularly initiatives that impact students of color, Native students, English Language Learners and underserved students.

Specific Duties

We are looking for a team player interested in writing, researching, tracking and analyzing proposed, new, and existing education legislation and regulations, brainstorming new approaches to high school programs and practices, and becoming part of a vibrant team of a national civil rights education policy organization.

Analyze current federal and state laws and pending legislation and regulations.
Conduct research and policy studies.
Write or co-write briefs, reports and other documents for interested policy makers and other parties on policies impacting high school students.
Use data of effective high school practices and programs that positively impact graduation to inform /propose new policies to implement.
Represent CHSE at meetings and conferences
Work with other organizations with related interests
Assist the team in conducting events such as panels, conferences and symposia.

Qualifications

Master’s Degree or higher in policy or education, or equivalent in training and experience.
3-5 years of experience in education policy; federal policy (required), and state policy experience (a plus).
Strong research, analytical, writing and communication skills
Experience translating policy materials and initiatives into accessible communications for activists, media, public
Self-starter and ability to develop original work.
An ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Strong familiarity with civil rights organizations and communities of color.
