The Boys and Girls Club of Woburn http://www.bgcwoburn.org/ offers an extraordinary opportunity for a new executive leader to partner with a deeply engaged Board and passionate staff in pursuing an exciting and ambitious agenda. The new Executive Director will lead an organization that is financially stable, highly respected and poised and prepared for growth.
Since it opened its doors in 1964, the Boys and Girls Club has built a reputation as a strong and effective organization serving Woburn and surrounding cities and towns with creative, award-winning programs. Academic enrichment programs, teen programs including service initiatives, after-school assistance with homework, swim teams, licensed daycare and summer camp are just some of the highly regarded and highly subscribed efforts provided to hundreds of boys and girls annually. The Club is financially sound with a budget of $1.2 m., a full-time staff of eight, and many dedicated volunteers who enhance member experience and support program success. In addition, the Board of Directors is a remarkable group of leaders who will serve as strategic partners for a new Executive Director and who provide the quality of governance and support that is the envy of many non-profit organizations.
The Opportunity and Challenge
As in many locations around the country, the past several years have seen significant change in the demographics of the multiple communities that the Boys and Girls Club serves. Demand on Club services is growing but the current facility is faced with significant space limitations and is stretched to capacity with the current schedule. Recognizing the opportunity for growth and the need to serve a broader geography and a larger population, the Board of Directors has undertaken a major resource development initiative with the goal of developing a new Club facility. The prospects for success are excellent and the vision of making programs and services accessible to a wider population is increasingly promising.
Meanwhile there is the need to ensure that the infrastructure of the organization is positioned to sustain future expansion. The current staffing structure and the internal systems, policies and procedures that support operations will all benefit from a new pair of eyes. The new Executive will be blessed by generous Board and community resources and expertise but he or she will need to know how best to organize staff to achieve optimal results and will need to possess an understanding of the demands that growth will inevitably make on the organization.
Skills, Experience and Attributes of the Ideal Candidate
