The Technical (IT) Instructor is a member of the Per Scholas’ Education and Training Team. The Per Scholas’ Training Team is committed to delivering high-end computer repair technician training to underemployed and unemployed community residents for purposes of higher economic development and improvement of quality of life.

Primary responsibilities of this high response, people-centered position include: working with program students to prepare them for employment in the IT field as computer repair technicians and preparing students to pass the CompTIA A+ Certification examination.

IT INSTRUCTION AND TEST PREPARATION-50%

Student IT Instruction and outcomes
 Provide students with training in computer hardware, operating systems, and application software to include general troubleshooting, and networking
 Work closely with other members of the team to attempt to ensure 85% student graduation rate
 Achieve 75% A+ certification rates for all graduating students
 As needed, facilitate remediation workshops and individual coaching session with graduates

STUDENT PERFORMANCE COORDINATION-15%

Student Performance Tracking and Coordination
 Monitor and record student grades and work closely with Director of Training and Case Manger to address student performance issues
 Monitor and record student attendance and work closely with Case Manager and Career Counseling team to address student attendance concerns
 Meet regularly with the Career Counseling and other team members to review student progress
 As needed, meet with the Job Developers team to review student progress and make employment goals recommendations
 Work with the team to inform the team about students’ readiness to be scheduled for the A+ Certification Exam(s)
 Work closely with the Case Manger and the Career Counseling team to ensure students are adhering to Per Scholas dress code and other administrative policies

ADMINISTRATIVE-15%

Administrative duties
 While classes are in session, unless having received prior approval from Director of Training (or VP of Training and Education), maintain 100% attendance and availability to teach the class from 9AM to 4PM
 Ensure the classroom is maintained in an organized and appropriate manner and that is conducive for learning
 Prepare the classroom for the start of the new class
 Ensure that all equipment and software is secured and accounted for on a daily basis
 Participate in all required student progress meetings with other members of the team
 Participate in all required staff meetings
 Oversee contents and updates to the Per Scholas Computer Technician Training Curriculum and consistency and validity of Per Scholas testing materials.
 Assist in distribution of student ACCESS computers
 As needed, comply with ISO 14001 regulations and ensure student compliance with the same
 As needed, assist with program recruitment, including interviewing prospective program candidates as needed

REPORTING-10%

Reporting
 Complete and submit student Computer Technician Training Midterm / Final Progress reports
 Complete and submit Final Cycle reports
 As needed, enter student data into database as instructed.

Perform other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor

 Associates Degree and 3 years of teaching adults experience or Bachelors Degree and 1 year of teaching adults experience. (Education, Communications, or Computer Science degree preferred but not required)
 Must be A+ certified. A+ Certification; Network+ and MCSE preferred
 Expert level knowledge of computer hardware, Windows XP, 2000, 98, DOS, Vista, and Microsoft Office Suite 2003/2007
 Must have excellent written, presentation, and public speaking skills
 Must be a goal oriented, solutions driven, problem solver who is people and service oriented
 Must have strong time management skills and the ability to balance multiple tasks with ability to meet deadlines and follow through on projects to ensure completion*
 Must be punctual and maintain 100% attendance while classes are in session, unless previous arrangements have been made
 Must have proven ability in working both independently and as part of a team*
 Must be flexible and able to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings and weekends*
 Must be comfortable with and adopt quickly to organizational, program and departmental changes*
 Strong commitment to the mission of Per Scholas and to individuals from diverse populations*
 Ability to perform field work as needed*
