Since 1884, Madison has been providing after-school and summer programs for thousands of children in New York City’s most disadvantaged communities. Five core service areas provide enhanced programming that ensures members receive much-needed resources, guidance, and support as they progress academically and socially. A founding member of Boys & Girls Clubs of America, Madison currently serves more than 5,000 youth ages six to eighteen at seven sites throughout the Bronx and Brooklyn as well as at Camp Madison in Kingston, NY.
Under the direct supervision of the Director of Development, the Manager of Foundation Relations is a member of the resource development staff working at a fast pace and supporting a vibrant and progressive fundraising strategy. The position requires an excellent writer who is well-organized and enjoys teamwork as well as the challenge of writing on deadlines.
Synthesize complex information into clear and concise proposals, reports, and letters of inquiry.
Research, write, edit and revise assigned development materials including grant proposals and reports, concept papers, and stewardship reports.
Build new and existing relationships with key foundations and identify appropriate ways for them to further the organizational goals.
Identify new opportunities for government funding and maintain existing government grants through grant renewals.
Assist with formulating and managing budgets for programs.
Work with all staff members and trustees of the organization executing all aspects of organization’s development plan.
Utilize Raiser’s Edge to track and meet assigned deadlines including the status of fundraising activities.
Bachelor’s degree required and minimum of three years experience in fund development, preferably in a non-profit environment.
Demonstrated experience securing grants.
Strong communication skills, both oral and written – the ability to tailor communication to various constituencies.
Ability to think strategically about the timing of grant submission and the necessary cultivation and follow-through that must take place.
Obsessive attention to detail, strong organizational skills and time management.
Outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to deal effectively with a wide range of persons.
Proficiency in database management such as Raiser’s Edge and word processing software.
Proven ability to function independently and as part of a team.
Demonstrated poise, tact, integrity and professionalism.
